Hazel Belton Ettison, 80, of Palatka, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Haven Hospice Robert's Care Center, Palatka, following an extended illness. A native of Palatka, she was born on Saturday, October 1, 1932 to Ellison & Lallie (Boulware) Belton. She was educated in the Putnam County School District (Central Academy High School). From an early age, she became a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. She was united in Holy Matrimony to William Ettison. Hazel was formerly employed as a trained nursing assistant in Atlanta, GA. She was employed by the Putnam County School District as a school custodian at Beasley Middle School and later at Palatka High School. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading her Bible, playing bingo, watching soap operas and spending time with family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in eternal rest by her three sisters, Daisyetta Barnett, Mary Davis and Lila Mae Kelly, brother, Theodore Belton. Those who treasure her loving memories: sister, Eleanor (Cornell) Young, Sicklerville, NJ; 5 brothers, Robert (Gussie) Belton, Sr., Jacksonville; Sam (Grace) Belton, Philadelphia, PA; Hastings Belton, Palatka; Clarence (Ruby) Belton, California City, CA; Jimmie Lee Belton, Jacksonville; and a host of nieces and nephews especially her devoted caregiving nephew, Robert (Melanie) Belton, Jr., Palatka; other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, January 25 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 26, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, pastor, is the eulogist.
