Minister Carlos Antonio Hayward, 39, of Fleming Island, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Baptist Clay Medical Campus, Fleming Island. A native of Jacksonville, he was born on Thursday, July 31, 1975 to Elijah "Bubba" Sr., and Sylvia (Fenderson) Hayward. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Armstrong. At the age of six, God blessed him with a mother (Sheila Hayward) who ensured he would continue in the statues set forth by his birth mother. He was a graduate of St. Augustine High School, class of 1994. Carlos attended Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC., and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from University of Phoenix. He was currently enrolled at Strayer University pursuing his Master's degree in Business Administration. On August 8, 1997, He was united in holy matrimony to Tanae Anderson and they became the proud parents of their "Angel," Jay'Lynn Ari Hayward, born on April 16, 2003. They have resided in Clay County since 1998. He was a former enrollment advisor at the Sanford Brown Institute in Jacksonville. Minister Hayward was a member of Greater Refuge Ministries Inc., of Jacksonville. Carlos had many hobbies including cooking, counseling, and being an encourager. His life exemplified the fruit of the Spirit. In addition to his parents, Carlos was preceded in eternal rest by his brothers, Timothy Boykin and Elijah "Poppa" Hayward, Jr., maternal grandparents Thad and Bessie (Hackney) Fenderson; paternal grandparents, James and Gertrude (McKnight) Hayward; step-grandparents, Lorenzo and Catherine (Spencer) Mercer. He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife, Tanae Hayward; daughter, Jay'Lynn Ari Hayward, Fleming Island, stepmother, Shelia Hayward, St. Augustine; sisters, Wanda Hayward, Palatka; Teressa Boykin, Elkton; brothers, Terrance (Tamika) Mercer, Middleburg; Jason Chandler, Albuquerque, NM., Christopher Hayward, St. Augustine; sister-in-law, Milcah Hayward, Armstrong; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Saturday, January 31, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 4 p.m. Sunday, February 1st, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Overseer Jessie Nightingale, of Guiding Light Ministries, Inc., Jacksonville is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Armstrong Cemetery.
