Obituary

Harry Truman Thomas, the son of Sam Thomas and Ardell Favors, was born on Thursday, December 20, 1945 in Lexington, GA. After completing his formal education in Oglethorpe County Consolidated School (now Oglethorpe County Primary School), A1C Harry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served in the Field Maintenance Squadron as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist and Parachute Rigger.  During his military tenure he received several commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Longevity Service Award.  Upon completion of his enlistment period, Harry received an Honorable Discharge.   For more than 35 years, he exhibited his skill as a charter bus driver working for several companies including  Classic Bus Lines,  American Tour International, Gaines U.S.A. and Ride Solutions. Harry was a former member of New Bethel A.M.E. Church, San Mateo, and most recently held membership at St. James A.M.E. Church, Welaka. He served as a member of the Steward Board and the Sons of Allen Men's Ministry. His hobbies included watching car shows, car races, westerns, traveling, researching historical facts, reading car magazines and newspapers, and spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in eternal rest by his daughter, Wilma Williams; granddaughters, Mozella and Kaleigh Williams; sisters, Ruby Nell Thomas, Annie Lois Thomas-Roach, and Juanita Thomas Eberhart; parents-in-law, Wilmer & Georgian Gilyard, Sr.

Harry entered the sunset of life on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Malcolm Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Gainesville, FL.

Cherished memories of Harry remain with his devoted wife of 30 years, Regina Gilyard-Thomas, San Mateo; daughters and sons, Ronda Jara, Earnest Stokes, Jr., Satura Stokes, all of San Mateo; Spencer Thomas, Sr., Miami; Marcus Stokes, Sr., Palm Coast; Chantel Thomas, Miami; 16 grandchildren, Christian, Heather, Faith, Jael, Tyrean, Ashley, Kasandra, Spencer, Dontrell, Derrick, Jr., Alberto, Jordan, Marcus, Jr., Spencer, Jr., Vincent, Montre'; 7 great-grandchildren, Royal, Demi, Lyric, Jewel, Ja'Laya, Journee, Kalina; sisters, Sandra Thomas Eberhart, Miami; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wilmer (Jackie) Gilyard, Jr., Larry (Linda) Gilyard, Sr., both of Palatka; Shelton Gilyard, Sr., Reverend Sandra Gilyard, both of San Mateo; aunts & uncles, Lillian Lee, Lilla Holsey, both of San Mateo; Laura Porter, Athens, GA; godchildren, Rekera Addison, Palatka; Shelton Gilyard, Jr., Tampa; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, December 5 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Harry's Life, with U.S. Air Force Honor Guard conducting military honors, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 6 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Senior Pastor. Reverend Sandra Gilyard, St. James A.M.E. Church, Welaka, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Old San Mateo Cemetery.
