Obituary

Gwendolyn Campbell White, 91, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka. A native of Euchee Valley, (Walton County)she was the 11th of 13 children born on Monday, November 30, 1925, to Christopher Joseph & Hannah Eunora (Anderson) Campbell. Gwendolyn was educated in the Walton County School District (Tivoli High School). She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Florida A & M. University, Tallahassee; Elementary Education Certificate, Bethune Cookman College, Daytona, and a Reading Certificate from the University of Florida, Gainesville. While in college she joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and was a member of the local chapter since its organization. Also she was a member of the WESCA, Conlee-Snyder Mural Committee, Order of Eastern Star, Mid Florida Council on Aging, FAMU Alumni Organization, Election Poll Worker, and Edgar Johnson Senior Center Founding Board. Gwendolyn believed that service was a good part of her life. She previously resided in the Princeton Village, Palm Coast and Daytona Beach areas, prior to relocating to Palatka. Gwendolyn employment included: Adult Education Teacher for Walton County School District, 2nd grade teacher at Central Academy Elementary School, 2nd & 3rd grade teacher at Campbell Elementary for Putnam County School District; retiring in 1992 as a Title 1 Resource Center Manager. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She loved participating in activities at the Edgar Johnson Senior Center in Palatka; doing word search puzzles, reading, playing board games and cards.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brothers, Alcus, Oliver, Miles, Angus, Theophilus, Alva, Hubbard, and Mace Campbell; sisters, Jahaza Goode, Christiene and Emma Ward.

She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Brenda Harmon, Palatka; granddaughter, Shelileah Ramsey (Marcus) Newman, Harrisburg NC; great- grandson, Christian Marcus Newman, Harrisburg NC; sister, Elsie Campbell Peppers, Jacksonville; "like a daughter", Yvette Sharon Lundy, Interlachen; and a host of other relatives and friends.
