Gregory Videll Baker, Sr., 46, native and lifelong resident of San Mateo, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka. The son of Robert Earl Baker and Sadie Manning, he was born on Wednesday, November 1, 1972. Gregory was educated in the Putnam County School District at Palatka High School. He was a member of the East Palatka Church of God by Faith under the leadership of Elder David Roberts. He was a fork-lift operator, employed by Hydro Aluminum, St. Augustine. His hobbies included fishing, walking, and playing video games. Greg was a respectable, kind-hearted gentleman who never met a stranger. He was a dedicated father who loved his children and family.
He was preceded in eternal rest by his father, Robert Earl Baker (July 7, 2008), and sister, Margaret Oliver (November 22, 2006).
He leaves to cherish his memories: mother, Sadie Manning, San Mateo; stepmother, Apostle Carol Baker, Jacksonville; sons and daughters, Shyshoniqukia Baker, Killeen, TX; Gregory Baker, Jr., Mer'San Baker, La'Maggie Baker, Jazmine Canty, De'Jah Baker, all of Palatka; brothers, Kenneth Baker, St. Augustine; Craig (Cassandra) Baker, Tampa; Tyrell Arnold (Lavonta) Baker, Jacksonville; Jonathan Baker, San Mateo; Rory (Whanica) Beauford, Tampa; Marvin Fowler, Fort Scott, KS; sisters, Sheila (Darrell) Purifoy, Palatka; Stephanie (Willie) Baker-Simon, St. Augustine; Roshunta Baker (Chris Evans), Tampa; Britney Baker, Jacksonville; Antoinette (Terrence) Baker-Nelson, St. Augustine; Tenika Fowler, Palatka; Kimberly (Anthony) Paige-Mwereru, San Diego, CA; goddaughter, Shamaria Gerald, Palatka; fiancé, Samantha McLeod, East Palatka; and a host of other caring relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, August 16, at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 1 p.m., Saturday, August 17, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid St., Palatka, Rev. James McGriff, Pastor. Rev. Sandra Gilyard, Associate Minister, New Bethel A.M.E. Church, San Mateo, officiating. Interment will be in Old San Mateo Cemetery.
