Grace Queen (Swain) Herring, was born on Sunday, September 7, 1930, in Johnson, Florida, to Ralph and Nellie Mae Swain. She received her early education in the Alachua County (Hawthorne) School District. She left home at an early age following the love of her life (Charlie) to New York City. There they were married and became the parents of one son, Charles. Grace and Charlie lived in New York City for 47 years. Grace worked in the hotel industry for 40 years. In 2011, they returned to Florida. Grace was of the Baptist faith and was in the church all of her life. She sang in the choir and loved to read the Bible. She would sing gospel songs until she could no longer remember the words; then she would hum all day long. Grace would give praise about everything.

Grace's hobbies included doing yard work, singing, and watching religious programs. Loved ones who preceded her in eternal rest include her parents, beloved husband, Charlie Boyd Herring; three sons, James Swain, Burdell Strickland, and Amos Strickland; beloved brother in law, Cecil Nelson.

Grace entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Palatka Center for Rehabilitation and Healing.

To cherish her memories are her loving son, Charles (Nikki) Herring) devoted sisters in law, Stella Nelson, Juanita Cunningham, Bonnie (Ernest) Sheffield, Terry (Sinatria) Williams; brothers in law, Lenton (Rev. Marie) Herring and Rev. Eugene (Yvonne) Herring. niece, Glenda Nelson; nephew, Corey (Christina) Nelson; great nieces, Imari Hooks and Kaylee Nelson.
