IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria Carol
Moore
September 26, 1935 – February 5, 2022
Gloria Carol Moore, 86, of Palatka, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 5, 2022 in the privacy of her Hicks Street home of birth, just as she wished. The daughter of Louvenia Williams and Joseph Moore, Gloria was born on Monday, August 26, 1935 in Palatka. She was in good health and was never married. She left one of two bedrooms empty and when asked why she didn't use it, she replied, "It's my mother's room." Gloria was a lifelong devoted member of the Jehovah Witness Assembly and community.
At the approximate age of 25, Gloria moved to the Long Island, NY suburb of Westbury and settled in with the Lovette Family, with mother, Joyce and father, Gene of the household, plus their three sons, age Bradford (age 11), Spencer (age 9), and Cliff (age 4). Joyce and Gene were both lawyers who left home every morning to commute to New York City by train to their office and returned around 7 o'clock, after the boys had dinner. Gloria occupied half of the upstairs living area and Brad & Spencer had the other half. Gloria was so loving and generous, she became a great asset to the Lovett family. All her free time was dedicated to her faith.
But let me say, as loving as she was, she had the same hardheaded, stubborn personality when she was displeased that everyone who knew her chuckles about when it's mentioned. A little kid thought twice about crossing her. Brad left for college in 1967 and Joyce was hit with Leukemia that same year. Gloria was her primary caregiver until she died in March 1968 and the Lovette family for that alone will be forever indebted to her. Shortly after Gene remarried in 1975, Gloria moved to her own place, pursued and studied for her nursing degree and subsequently became a Registered Nurse. She worked in a hospital in Long Island for many years. Gloria relocated to Palatka around 1998.
From 1987 onward she always owned a huge, 4-door Mercury. The first one was white and from 1993 it was the same green vehicle that sits in front of her house to this very day. When anyone suggested she sell it after she stopped driving she would just chuckle and say, "I don't think so."
For the past several years, the 3 Lovette brothers: Bradford, Spencer and Clifford, were like sons to her and she will never be forgotten. Following her mother's wishes, Gloria's home will be donated to the Watchtower Tract and Bible Society.
