Obituary

Gladys Spann, 94, of Palm Coast entered the sunset of life on Monday, July 22, 2024 at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, Palm Coast, Florida.

On Saturday, March 29, 1930, Lee Jerry (Zip) Miller and his wife, Cleo Drake Miller welcomed their second child. They named her Gladys, which means "God's Princess". She was born and raised in a loving home in Eustis (Lake County, Florida) along with her three sisters and one brother.
After graduating from Eustis Vocational High School (Class of 1951), she journeyed to New York. It was there that she became the bride of Johnie Spann. They were blessed with three children, Henry (Boyce), Denise and Glenn. After sixty-eight years of marriage, their earthly union was interrupted when he passed in 2022.
Gladys was a devoted member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Corona, New York. After retiring from CBS, she and her husband eventually relocated to Palm Coast, Florida. Never straying away from God's family, she became a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as Mother Spann. "God's Princess" spent her time proclaiming the goodness of God. Regardless of the issue, she instructed you to thank God for his goodness or ask him for His mercy. She had the gift of sharing God's love in a manner that was not judgmental, but with grace and based on her personal experience.

Gladys loved traveling, serving and praising God, and sincerely loved her family. She could always be relied upon as a person of unwavering stability, loving support, a peacekeeper and faithful servant who spread the good news. She was not to be relied upon for her singing ability but she praised Him still the same. While in Palm Coast, she was a member of the African American Culture Society, Inc. After the passing of her older sister, she was affectionately known as the family matriarch. The presence of Gladys was a gift of love, service and peace.

Left to cherish her memory: her children, Henry (Boyce) and Priscilla, Dothan, Alabama; Denise and Gary, Eustis, Florida; Glenn and Yvette, Riverdale, Georgia; grandchildren, Robert Redden (deceased), Ericca Redden Bradley, Jennifer and Chad Conley, Geneen and Terrell Coburn, Jeremy and Julia Redden, Kiean Gould, Jamaal and Jasmine Spann and Jordan Spann. She was blessed with nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce and Soloman McTier (both deceased), Vivian "Carloyn" Mitchell (Lloyd—deceased) and Patricia Miller. Brother: Leo T. (deceased) and
Charlesetta Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was blessed to have special friendships with Mrs. Kizzie Barksdale (for over 70 years) and Mrs. Eartha Edwards (over 60 years).
Gladys was predeceased by sisters-in law, Carrie (Roy) Davis, and Essie (Matthew) Harris, and brothers-in-law, Ransom Spann, Jr. and Walter Spann.

We are forever blessed that we were gifted with Gladys Lucille Miller Spann. "God's Princess" was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, cousin, but most importantly a prayer warrior and a child of God.
