Obituary

George Porter Starks, 71, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, Palm Coast following an extended illness. Porter, the youngest of seven children was born in Chester, South Carolina to Elmanus and Carrie R. Starks on Wednesday, May 29, 1940. He was educated in the Chester SC Public School System. He continued his education by attending Real Estate, Locksmith and Electrician classes, completing each class successfully. Porter continued to achieve in his career as a Seafood Company driver and subsequently became certified as a Metro Transportation driver, retiring after 19 years of service. He was united in holy matrimony to Deloris Francis Head and they were the proud parents of three children, Anthony, Keith, and Vernie and a loving grand-daughter, Victoria. Porters hobbies were traveling, renovating his homes, entertaining and good music.

He served as a Deacon at Ambassador Baptist Church and he later joined Delaware Baptist Church, Washington, DC, faithfully serving as Vice President of the Ushers. He was a member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. In 2002, after relocating to Palm Coast, he joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Palm Coast. He served faithful in the Security and Mens Fellowship Ministries, and was a diligent student of Bible Study and Sunday School.

He was preceded in eternal rest by sons, Keith & Vernie Starks.

To cherish his life and legacy, devoted wife of 51 years, Deloris Starks, Palm Coast; son, Anthony Starks, Atlantic City, NJ; granddaughter, Victoria Starks, Palm Coast; brother, David L. Starks (Classie); sister Blanche A. Jacobs (Clinton); mother-in-law, Christine M. Knight; and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11a.m. Friday, October 14 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Pine Lakes Parkway South, Palm Coast, Rev. Edwin Coffie, Pastor, officiating. Homegoing Celebration will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Delaware Avenue Baptist Church, 1301 V Street, S.E. Washington, D.C., Reverend Roy Holbrook, Pastor. Pastor Edwin Coffie is the eulogist.

Interment will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood Maryland.
