George "Son" Kelley, Jr., 95, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Monday, August 29, 2016 as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicular accident. The eldest of sixteen children of George Kelley, Sr. and Ruby (Bryant) Wilson, he was a native of Camilla, GA, born on Monday, August 30, 1920. George was educated in the Mitchell County GA School District. In 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Ethel Clayton. In the late 1950s, they relocated from Camilla, GA to Crescent City, FL. He was a longtime farm laborer at Neal Thorn Company and was also employed with Ace Hardware for 16 years. He would often be found working in the fields. George was a faithful member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Crescent City for over 60 years. He was affiliated with the New Moon Lodge 32. He was gifted in so many areas and enjoyed gardening, building and repairing things, collecting soda cans, cooking his famous Brunswick stew, growing sugarcane and making syrup for his grandchildren, and socializing with family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in eternal rest by his: daughter, Janice Kelly; sons, George Kelly, III, Jeff Kelly.
He leaves to cherish his memories: sons and daughters, Ruby "Jewel" Kelly Mosley, Crescent City; Dale Sally, Avon Park; Mary Ann Williams, Daytona Beach; Robert Kelly, Palatka; Dr. Al (Kay) Kelly, Lawton, OK; Willie Kelly, Crescent City; brothers, Harrison Kelly, Lucious Kelly, both of Cleveland, OH; two sisters, Rosie Williams, Cleveland, OH; Katie Moody, Crescent City; goddaughter, Zariah Miller, Crescent City; 21 grandchildren, especially, Monique, Dantavious, and Janice Kelly; 60 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 9 at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1227 Old Highway 17, Crescent City. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, September 10, at True Foundation Ministries, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Gwendolyn George. Reverend Brian K. James, Pastor of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Crescent City, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
