Obituary

Gail Evans, the daughter of Willie Joe Browder and Mattie Mae Evans, was born on Wednesday, August 29, 1956, in Miami, Florida. She was educated in the Miami Dade County School District and graduated in 1974 from Miami Edison Senior High School.

Gail worked in the banking profession for many years as a bank sorter with First Federal Savings & Loan of Miami, later First Union, Wachovia, and ultimately Wells Fargo, where she remained a loyal and dedicated employee until her retirement in 2018.

She loved to read novels and built an extensive book collection over the years. Gail enjoyed movies, especially action and science fiction films, and loved traveling whenever she could. She also enjoyed listening to music and relaxing in peace and quiet, which she deeply valued. She had a special love for seafood, with fish being her favorite, and she enjoyed baked goods, especially those made by her mother. Gail was also fond of game shows, including Wheel of Fortune , The Price Is Right , and Jeopardy . In her later years, she liked binge-watching shows like The Voice and NCIS . When she was younger, she was a member of the Girl Scouts, which reflected her early interest in learning and connection.

Though often quiet and reserved, Gail's loyalty and consistency stood out to those who knew her best. Her lifelong friendship with Sharon Eaddy is a testament to the way she nurtured close, lasting relationships. She was especially close with her granddaughters and took pride in being the oldest sibling, a role she carried with a strong sense of responsibility throughout her life.

In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in eternal rest by her youngest sister, Barbara Burley; aunts, Susie Lee Evans, Carrenda Hilton, and Ada Valentine; and uncles, John Taylor, James Taylor, and Todd Evans.

Gail passed away on Monday, August 24, 2025, at her residence in Palatka, Florida.

She is survived by her daughter, Sonya (Roderick) Kemp; her son, Quincy Lamar Day; her grandchildren, Brittnay (Joseph) Camps, Keyondra Donald, and Elisha Donald; her great-granddaughter, Jireh Omar Camps; her sister, Betty Evans; her brother, Benjamin Burley Sr.; nieces, Jiovanne Evans, Johnnie Evans, and Antonia Turner; nephews, Edison Hill and Benjamin Burley Jr.; great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and special friends including Sharon Eaddy, Dennis Shy, and Lawrence Johnson, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Gail will be remembered for her quiet strength, her love of peace, her loyalty, and the deep love she had for her family.
