Frank Green, Jr., 92, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the V. A. Medical Center in Lake City following an extended illness. Frank, a retired deputy sheriff was born October 29, 1914 to Mr. & Mrs. Frank & Elizabeth (Martin) Green, Sr., in Palatka. He was educated in the Putnam County School District. Frank was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge, he pursued a career in law enforcement as a Deputy Sheriff with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office and the Volusia County Sheriffs Office. He later served as a security guard supervisor with Wells Fargo. He was a former resident of Jacksonville and Daytona Beach before returning to Palatka in 1980. In 1986, he became a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, where he served on Usher Ministry #1 and as the church parliamentarian. Frank was a man who loved his church, family, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. Frank is preceded in eternal rest by his parents, Frank & Elizabeth Green, Sr., son, Timothy Green; and great grandson, Carlos Lewis. To cherish his memories: loving wife of 41 years, Bertha Williams Green, Palatka; sons, Elder Frank (Roberta) Green, III and Anthony (Elizabeth) Green, both of Tallassee, AL; daughters, Alveda Miller, Carrie Green, and Constance Green, all of Daytona Beach; Elder Anita Wilson, Miami; Sister, Marjorie Young, Laplace, LA., sisters-in-law & brothers- in- law, Fannie (Lorenzo) Wright, Titusville; Margaret (Phillip) Cardogan, Betty Kennedy, Mable Gibbens, Harry Williams, James C. Williams, Isaac Williams, all of Sarasota; 15 Grandchildren, including devoted granddaughter, Christelle Green, Gainesville; 19 Great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends, including devoted friends, Queen E. Simmons, Erline McMillan, & Lillie Freeman Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, August 22, from 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, August 23, at 11 A.M. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid St., Palatka, Rev. James H. McGriff, pastor. Franks pastor, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
