Florida Mae Jones, 88, of Middleburg, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent's Clay County Hospital, Middleburg. The daughter of James, Sr. and Mary Lee (Johnson) Hampshire, she was a native of Liberty County, FL., born on Tuesday, June 28, 1932. She accepted Christ at an early age and she was baptized at Little St. John Baptist Church, Perry, FL. During her early childhood years, her family relocated to Middleburg and she was educated in the Clay County School District. Florida launched her employment career from a very young age. She served as a dietary assistant at Moosehaven Health Center, Orange Park, from 1958 until retirement in 1996, serving faithfully for 38 years. She was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess ministry. In 1952, she was united in marriage to Earlie Jones, Sr. and they became the proud parents of 6 daughters and 3 sons. She enjoyed cooking, singing, and gardening.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by sons, Earlie Jones, Jr., and Nathaniel "J.J." Jones; daughter , Barbara Jean Jones Kirkland; brother , Fred Hampshire, Sr.; sister , Alice Lee Hampshire; and granddaughter , Sylvia.
She leaves to cherish her memories: son , Henry Jones, Jr., Jacksonville; 5 daughters , Linda (Phillip) Jones Miller, Jacksonville; Theretha (Jesse) Jones Jefferson, Sylvia Ophesia Jones, Lisa Michelle Jones, Jacquelyne Jones, all of Middleburg; 13 grandchildren ; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins , especially Doretha Redding, (raised as sisters), Perry, FL; special godchildren , David Braley, Harris Jackson, Miriam Byrd.
In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines including required masks with social distancing, a visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 12 noon with a Celebration of Life commencing at 12 noon, Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Hunter-Douglas Park, 4393 Longmire Road, Middleburg, FL. Dr. T.L. Patterson, Pastor, New Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, St. Augustine, is the eulogist.
