Deacon Felton Williams, 88, of Palatka, answered His Lord and Saviors voice to enter eternal rest on Wednesday, April 28 at Putnam Community Medical Center. He was born Wednesday, March 1, 1922 in Macon, Georgia to Joe Henry Williams and Emma (Perkins) Williams. He was educated in the Bibb County, Georgia School System. In 1944, during World War II, Felton was inducted into the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning, GA., proudly served our nation and earned an honorable discharge. Deacon Williams was a born-again believer who really loved the Lord and served God faithfully at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church for virtually 55 years. As a longtime resident of Putnam County, Felton earned respect as a very industrious man who literally and tirelessly worked all of his life. He was a logging entrepreneur and operated a scrap-metal business for many years. He was formerly employed by the USDA Forest Service in the Ocala National Forest (Juniper Springs) and recently retired as a security guard and watchman at the New Best Packers plant in Palatka. Deacon Williams was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, frequently testifying about his personal relationship with the Lord and persistently witnessed to others concerning the moment he was filled with the Holy Ghost. Deacon Williams was preceded in eternal rest by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Willie Mae (Gordy) Williams (1991); three brothers, Moses Bo Williams, Joe Hoover Jay Williams and Johnny Williams, three sisters, Bertha Lee Baker, Clara Sis Benjamin and Marie Dean.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: Loving and Devoted Wife of almost 14 years, Minister Lilla R. Williams, Palatka; Sons, Lorenzo Williams, Palatka; Anthony Jerome Williams, Jacksonville; 2 brothers, Joseph (Nellie) Williams and Willie (Barbara) Williams, both of Rockledge; step-sons Elliott (Annette) Brinson and Gary (Valeria) Brinson, Douglas, GA; step-daughters, Tammy (Carl) Wilkerson, Douglas, GA and Deidra (Marlon) Woollery, Baltimore, MD; 7 step-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Albertha (William Sr.) McKiver, Jacksonville; A host of brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, including Bernell Williams, Orange Mills; other relatives and caring friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 7 at Mt. Tabor. Homegoing Celebration will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, pastor is the Eulogist.
Interment with Military Honors will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
The cortege will assemble at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Williams family residence, 1104 North 16th Street, Palatka.
