Obituary

Eveline Davis, 77, of St. Augustine, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Community Hospice Bailey Family Center for Caring, St. Augustine.

Eveline Mary-Elizabeth was born on Monday, October 28, 1946 to Neller McDougle & William Figgs, Sr. in St. Augustine, FL. Eveline attended Murray High School and was a majorette in the Murray High School band. While attending Murray High School, Eveline met Eddie Davis, fell in love, and became a wife before graduating. After Eveline and Eddie were married, Eveline earned her high school diploma from Excelsior High School in 1963.

Eveline was the youngest of 10 children. She spent much of her life as a homemaker. She was a caregiver for many family members, while raising nine children of her own and many more that were not. Eveline was a woman of faith and believed in the Lord. She was a natural nurturer and a kind-hearted woman.  Her nurturing spirit and sincere kindness allowed her home to be a safe place for many that needed a hug, a meal, a place to rest, a secret kept, and a listening ear. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-figure; favorite aunt and a friend to many.

In addition to her parents, Eveline is preceded in eternal rest by her children: Eddie Lee Davis, Jr. and Evette Davis; brothers: Bill Figgs, Alphonso & Nathaniel McDougle; sisters: Rosa Figgs, Eva and Myrtle McDougle; Dorothy Burgess and Pauline Hines; mother-in-law, Mattie Davis; father-in-law, Ira Hall; and best friend, Gloria Jean Washington.

She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Eddie Lee Davis, Sr., St. Augustine, FL; children, Elaine (Avery) Anderson, Eric (Sabrina) Davis, both of St. Augustine, FL; Everick (Rosa) Davis, McLeansville, NC; Endolyn (James) Wadley, Palm Coast, FL; Elanda (Jonathan) Ficklin, Jacksonville, FL; Ericka (Bo) Reid, St. Augustine, FL; Evonne (Mark) Smith, Bowie, MD; stepdaughter, Lisa (Johnny) Jones, Palm Coast, FL; brother, Prince McDougle, special niece and nephew, Joanne & June McDougle; goddaughter, Zakiya Strawter-Seabrooks. Her love extended to raising (great-nephews) David Johnson, Jarvae Hines, Darnell Hines Sr., and Darnell Hines Jr. as her own. She also leaves to cherish a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, family & friends who loved her dearly.
