IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugenia L.
Watson
March 25, 1938 – December 27, 2019
Eugenia Lynore Edwards Watson , 81, a resident of Palm Coast and native of Selma, Alabama was born on Friday, March 25, 1938. The daughter of Cleophus and Amelia (Craig) Edwards, She was the fifth of ten children and known to many as "Gennie." She was educated in the Dallas County, Alabama public school system in Selma. Eugenia accepted the Lord Christ Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age at the Elbethel Baptist Church.
As a young adult, "Gennie" relocated to New York City, where she continued her education at the Manhattan Business School. She began working at the Development Corporation of Israel, where she was a devoted and hardworking bond administrator. Gennie's skills were readily recognized, and she was promoted to Office Manager and she remained there until retirement.
Gennie's commitment and devotion to the Lord was always evident in her life. While in New York, she united with Convent Avenue Baptist Church in Harlem, where the Reverend M. L. Wilson served as Pastor. She was an active member, and served on several committees and ministries.
While in New York, Gennie met the love of her life, Henry Watson, and on June 5, 1971 they were united in Holy Matrimony at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church. To that union was born one daughter, Kimberly Lynette Watson. Later, they were blessed with an adopted son, Garrett "Gary" Watson. In 2019, "Gennie" and Henry were blessed to celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary! To God be the glory!
"Gennie" loved cooking and she was a very good cook: one of her favorite dessert dishes was banana pudding. She also loved sports, especially, baseball and basketball. Some of her favorite NBA players were LeBron James, James Harden, and Steph Curry. She also thoroughly enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team, the New York Mets.
After relocating to Teaneck, New Jersey in 1975, the Watson family joined the First Baptist Church of Teaneck. Gennie was a faithful servant in several ministries, and she especially loved serving on the Deaconess Ministry as a Deaconess, and on the Culinary Ministry.
In 2004, the Watson family was led to relocate from New Jersey to Florida, and they found their new home in Palm Coast, FL., and were also led to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where, under the leadership of Pastor Edwin Coffie, Gennie and husband, Henry, became active members and laborers for the Lord. As their service to Mt. Calvary grew, husband, Reverend Henry Watson, was appointed Associate Minister and Gennie, once again as a Deaconess in the Deaconess Ministry. As members of the Asher Tribe, she actively supported its leader of many years, Deacon JC Foster, and its current leader, Deacon Sylvester Kirk.
But her service to the Lord did not stop there. Deaconess Gennie also labored in support of Mt. Calvary's Health Ministry, the Nursing Home Ministry, ably led by her husband; the Nursery Ministry; Women's Ministry; and Calvary Cupboard Ministry; and regularly attended Mt. Calvary's Bible Study, Sunday Services and nearly every important Church event and activity. She served to support her husband when he taught Bible Study, and could often be seen passing out lessons and gathering signatures on attendance sheets. Deaconess Gennie especially loved serving in the Deaconess Ministry, where she remained faithful until December 27, 2019, when she was relieved of her duties and called home to rest from her labors. Deaconess Mary A. Joseph, Deaconess Ministry Chair, describes Deaconess Watson as someone who "had a longing for scripture, was deeply devoted to the Ministry, and was an absolute joy to work with." Deaconess Watson always stood ready to help, whenever help was needed, and always with a smile!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brother, Cleophus Edwards, Jr., sisters , Earnestine Edwards, Elizabeth Rainey, and Mary Edwards.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband, Reverend Henry Watson; daughter, Kimberly L. Watson, Palm Coast; son, Gary Watson, Dallas, TX; 4 grandchildren, Imani N. Watson, Jahnique P. Carter, Palm Coast; Laylaa Muhammad, Mays Landing, NJ; grandson, Frank Brown Jr., Teaneck, NJ ; great-grandaughter, Analia Carter, Palm Coast; 3 sisters, Lucy B.
