Eugene "Gene" Kenon, Jr., 73, of Dover, DE, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Tallahassee, FL, following an extended illness. The son of Eugene Keenon, Sr., and Louise Worthy Bruce, he was born on Tuesday, September 24, 1940 in Hastings. He was an honor graduate of Central Academy High School, class of 1958. He was respected by and known to his classmates as "smart" and "good looking." In 1962, "Gene" relocated to Smyrna, Delaware and resided there for over 40 years. He was employed with General Foods (now known as Kraft Foods), where he was notably listed as one of the first African-American supervisors, and later retired after 35 years of dedicated service. During his retirement, Gene did what he loved mostfished and telephoned his family and friends. In addition to his mother and father, "Gene" was preceded in eternal rest by his stepmother, Ferline Floyd Keenon, who raised him; and his beloved sister, Joan Theresa Keenon-Ellis. Jenkins, Jacksonville, Yvonne (Robert) Singleton, Audrey Keenon, San Mateo, Brenda Jones, Cassandra Keenon, Palatka; brothers, Vernon (Ruth) Keenon, Greenwood, SC, Lancy (Renee) Keenon, Palatka; beloved aunt, Bonnie (Robert Williams, Trenton, NJ; beloved uncle, Vance L. Floyd, San Mateo; beloved friends, Sandra Kenon, St. Augustine, Margret Fountain, Dover, DE; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other caring relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, January 10 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 11 at New Bethel A.M.E. Church, 154 North Boundary Road, San Mateo, Reverend Mary Alice Murphy, Pastor, presiding. Reverend Sandra Gilyard, Associate Minister, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, San Mateo.
