Obituary

Eugene Foster, Sr., the son of Isaac and Drucilla (Appling) Foster, was born on Sunday, February 24, 1957 in Manhattan, New York. He was a 1975 graduate of Palatka South High School. He earned his diploma in Theology, Bachelor of Arts and Master's degrees in Biblical Studies. Bishop Foster was the Founder of Citadel Ministry of Hope and was a former Pastor of Second Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, San Mateo, and New Mt. Tabor Baptist Church of Pomona Park. He was ordained as a Bishop in May 2004. He served as a christian volunteer and counselor at the Putnam County Jail and as a chaplain for the Palatka Police Department. He was a bible scholar who loved reading and studying the Word of God. He was employed by the Putnam County Public Works and Putnam County School District for over 20 years. He had experience in retail and was a truck driver for numerous companies. Bishop Foster also served in the Army Reserves 292nd Transportation Company for 12 years, and was honorably discharged.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his adoptive parents, Rutha Lee and Joe Borden, Sr.; brother, Charles Foster; sisters, Terry Gene Foster, Theda Borden and Rosezanna Medlock.

Bishop Eugene Foster, Sr. peacefully entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Haven Hospice - Roberts Care Center, Palatka.

He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 48 years, Aretha Myles Foster; sons and daughters, Terri (Theodore Thomas) Cooper, Eugene (Samantha Roundtree) Foster, Jr., April Robinson, Debra (Samuel, Sr.) Ragin, Christine (Charlie, Jr.) Shivers, Ishmael (Toni) Foster, Omega (Jarvis) Milton; 25 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe (Chris) Borden, Jr., Anthony (Helen) Williams, Sr.; sisters, JoAnna Williams, Beverly (Sherman) Canty, Evelena Borden; aunt, Bettye Mack-Ferguson; and a host of other relatives and close friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be held 5-7 p.m., Saturday, August 23 at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. A Celebration of Bishop Foster's Life will commence at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 24 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka. Rev. James Vickers, Pastor of New Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church of Pomona Park, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
