Obituary

Emma Jean Forman, 89, of Crescent City, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at her residence. The daughter of George and Ruby (Lane) Powell, she was a native and lifelong resident of Crescent City, born on Monday, October 4, 1926. She was educated in the Putnam County School District and subsequently earned a G.E.D. from Daytona Beach Junior College. At an early age, Emma accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Crescent City. On March 19, 1946, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Arthur "Chuck" Forman, Sr. Afterwards, the Forman family initiated worship together at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Crescent City. For nearly 70 years, she has served the Lord with gladness through her church and community. She was faithful as a Deaconess, "Mother of the Church," and Sunday School Teacher. She was a loyal member of over 30 years and served as a Past Matron, Order of the Eastern Star; Heroines of Jericho; and the Crescent City Women's Civic Association. She was a 24-year school food service employee in the Putnam County School District, retiring in 1987 after serving in the elementary, middle, and high schools of Crescent City. She also worked private duty for the George C. Miller family for many years. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, and ceramics. Putting God first, with family next, was of utmost importance in her life.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in eternal rest by her daughter , Joann Forman Morgan; son, Richard "Pop" Forman; eight siblings , Johnnie, Rebecca, Major, Rudolph, Louise, Clenton, George and James.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: devoted husband of nearly 70 years, Arthur "Chuck" Forman, Sr., Crescent City; son, Arthur Forman, Jr., St. Augustine; daughters, Rosa (Paul) Hudson, Savannah, GA, Sharon Rene' (Rodney) Raines, Alpharetta, GA; three grandchildren, Terrance (Cornethia) Forman, Sr., Palatka; Lauren (Kevin) Elliott, New Haven, CT; Rachel Raines, Brooklyn, NY; one great-grandson, Terrance Forman, Jr., Palatka; devoted sister, Vivian Barnes, Hempstead, NY; devoted brother, Elder Theodore (Ruby) Powell, Crestview; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 29 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 286 Smiley Store Road, Crescent City. Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m., Saturday, January 30, at True Foundation Ministries, 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City, Pastor Gwendolyn George, host pastor. Reverend Michael Robinson, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City.
