Elvera Smith Mitchell, 80, of Federal Point, entered the sunset of life on Friday, January 16, 2015 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Federal Point, FL., she was born on Friday, June 22, 1934. The daughter of Charlie and Juanita (Humphrey) Smith, she was a 1962 graduate of Central Academy High School, Palatka and was an outstanding athlete. She subsequently earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree at the Florida Memorial College, St. Augustine. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Thomas "Mitch" Mitchell, Jr. and they honored their marital vows for 55 years. For over 50 years, "Vera" was a well-respected cosmetologist and entrepreneur of "Vera's House of Beauty" and additionally served as a nursing assistant. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Hastings, where she served in numerous ministries, including the Deaconess, Choir, Mentoring, Giving, and Cooking ministry, respectively. In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in eternal rest by her son, Edwin Brian Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Christian Miller and Kyron J. Hall. She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband of 55 years, Thomas "Mitch" Mitchell, Jr.; children, Lisa Mitchell-Cleveland (David), Upper Marlboro, MD., Everette Anthony Mitchell, Fayetteville, NC., Denorris Mitchell-Hall (Pastor Tony), Federal Point; brothers & sisters, Ollie Smith St. Clair, Gainesville; Charles (Mamie) Smith, Jr., White Springs; Earnest H. (Ann) Smith, Jacksonville; Shirley A. (James) Sanders, Rivera Beach; Warren L. Smith, Federal Point; Clifton B. (Carolyn) Smith, West Palm Beach; Seabron A. (Allyson) Smith, Lake Worth; sister-in-law, Cora Dallas, Miami; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; aunt, Marie Adams, Palatka; and a host of god-children, god-sisters & god-brothers; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 30, at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, 416 Daniels Street, Hastings, Reverend Gregory James, Pastor. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, January 31 at Mount Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Federal Point Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at 10:15 a.m. at the W.E. Harris Community Center, Hastings.
