Eloise Williams Hackney, 76, longtime resident of Palatka entered the sunset of life on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital, Gainesville. A native of Cairo, GA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Arwillnor (Simpson) Williams, born on Tuesday, February 28, 1939. She was educated in the Grady County GA., School District. In 1958, Eloise was united in marriage to Eddie C. Hackney and they faithfully kept their vows for 20 years until he transitioned into eternal rest in 1978. Since 2013, she was a member of Unity of God's Manna, East Palatka under the leadership of Pastor Donald Johnson. Her longtime former church affiliation was Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church. Eloise was an entrepreneur who was also Founder and Organizer of "Women Working In the Community for God, Inc., and co-owner of the former Hackney's Service Station on North 11th Street. Over the years, Eloise was a reputable insurance agent representing numerous companies, especially the former Conger Life, Afro-American, and Central Life Insurance Companies. "Mother Eloise" loved spending time making floral arrangements and crafting ceramics. She truly loved both of her dogs: Ike and Tina. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her daughter, Tanga Velina Williams-Hackney; granddaughter, Constance Hackney; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Ann and Ernest Spell; brother, Teaberry Williams. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: sons: Eddie C. Hackney Jr., Edwin K. Hackney, (nephew) Cornell B. Williams Sr., all of Palatka; daughters: (niece) Paula M. Hackney, Hastings; (stepdaughter) Brenda H. Terry, Miami; sisters-in-law: Isabella Williams and Alice Hackney-Cain, both of Palatka; Doretha Hackney, Hastings; Miami; and a host of caring nieces, nephews, especially devoted great-nephew: Marcus B. Hackney, Hastings; other relatives and friends, including special sister/ friend, Sarah Fyles, Miami. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday July 24, at Flagg's Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing celebration will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 719 Reid Street, Palatka, Reverend James H. McGriff, Pastor. Her beloved pastor, Pastor Donald Johnson, is the eulogist. The cortege will assemble at Palatka High School Commons at 12:20 p.m., Saturday. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
