Obituary

Elnora Gordon Carter-Bain, 88, of Palatka, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at her residence. The daughter of Josephine Williams Hill Gordon and Edward Gordon, she was born on Wednesday, July 15, 1936, in Putnam County. The youngest of nine children (which consisted of Elnora's 3 brothers and 5 sisters)—she grew up as a beloved town figure, known for her outgoing nature, exceptional skill as a seamstress, and contagious energy that lit up every room she entered.

She graduated from Interlachen High School and soon followed her older sister, Bessie, to Miami. There she built a life filled with purpose, loved and dedication. With hard work and determination, she supported and nurtured her only child, Walter Markham, ensuring he had the foundation for success.

A devoted professional, she pursued a career in nursing, working as a registered nurse well into her early 70s, providing compassionate care to those in need. Beyond her career, she was a true servant at heart, always giving back to her community. She generously volunteered her time, donated toys to local schools, provided lunches for children, and offered her services wherever she was needed. Her kindness and generosity were unwavering, and her selflessness touched countless lives.

Her faith and commitment to the church were evident in every aspect of her life. She faithfully served as an usher at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Miami Gardens and as a church mother at both Friendship Community Church in Miami and Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. in Flemington. She was a guiding force in her church families, always ready with a warm smile, a listening ear, and a helping hand. She was also a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star exemplifying strength, service, and sisterhood.

She was preceded in eternal rest by her beloved husbands, Alvin Carter and Herman Bain; son, Walter, and seven of her dear siblings.

Through her unwavering faith, selfless service, and boundless love, she has left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Elnora's legacy will continue with her loving family including her sister, Ida Belle Brown; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who treasure her legacy.
