Ella Gertrude "Aunt Ella" "Pretty Lady" Bragg Lesene, 96, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at her residence. The daughter of General Saxton Bragg and Ella Gertrude (Strickland) Bragg, she was born on Saturday, November 22, 1924. She was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1943 graduate of Central Academy. Upon high school graduation, Aunt Ella moved to South Florida where she later met and married Leon D. Lesene, Sr. Through that union, a son, Leon, Jr. was born. She later worked as a beautician for many years before becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as an LPN at Jackson Memorial Hospital until her retirement.
At an early age, she accepted Christ at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Lundy. While in Miami, she was affiliated with Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Upon returning to Palatka, Aunt Ella united with Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church and served as a Church Mother.
In addition to her parents, husband, and son, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brothers, William Obadiah Bragg, Sr. and Elijah Bragg; sisters, Rosalee Jordan and Martha Elizabeth Bragg Edwards; nephews, William O. Bragg, Jr., Ulysses Bragg; nieces, Geraldine Jefferson Knowles, Eliza Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memories: son / nephew / caregiver, Elijah (Gwendolyn) Lowery, Palatka; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bragg, Junction City, KS; nephews, Reverend Horace (Karen) Jefferson, Lake City; David Bragg, Hutchinson, KS; nieces, Cynthia Bragg Moore (Melvin) Pembroke Pines; Phyllis Bragg, Miami Gardens; William and Wisteria Williams, Jacksonville; great-nephews, Timothy (Pamela) Thomas, Palatka; Darius Jefferson, Tallahassee; Marvin Knowles, Jr., Norfolk, VA; Marion Knowles, Sr., Jacksonville; Ryan Bragg, Miami Gardens; Marlon Moore, Raymond (Sylvia) Moore, Miami; Gary Moore, New York; great-nieces, Linda (Jimmie) Taylor and Marsha Miller, Palatka; Kalisha Jefferson, St. Augustine; LaWanda Lowery Gale, Palatka; Tameka Lowery, Dunn, NC; Sharli Jefferson, St. Louis, MO; Sonya B. Strigler, Jacksonville; Cassandra Bragg, North Carolina; Adrienne (Karenga) Snowden, North Carolina; Tamar (Kevin) Webb, Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bragg, Junction City, KS; godsons, John Harris, Richard Harris, Jr., Graham Harris, Morgan Harris, Miami; honorary son / nephew, Pastor Karl N. (Terricena) Flagg, and a host of great-great nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.
(Mandatory CDC guidelines for social distancing and masks required): Visitation of family and friends will be 10 a.m. – 12 noon, with Homegoing Celebration commencing at noon, Wednesday, September 1 st at Mt. Tabor 1 st Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
