Obituary

Ella Mae Appling Glover, the daughter of Minos W. Appling and Ola Bell Nealy, was born on Sunday, February 28, 1954, in Palatka. She was educated in Putnam (Central Academy High School) and St. Johns County School Districts.  She was a 1972 graduate of Hastings High School. After graduation, Ella moved to Brooklyn, NY. She worked in Manhattan, NY for Hearst Magazines for 5 years, then moved to Perth Amboy, NJ and continued to commute to Manhattan for another year.

While living in Perth Amboy, she worked for Catholic Welfare Bureau After School Care serving minorities, especially Black and Puerto Rican children.  Ella subsequently returned to Florida and moved to Miami where she attended Jackson Memorial Teaching Hospital and earned certification as a nursing assistant; she worked there for 2 years.

Finally returning home to Palatka, she continued working in healthcare at Putnam Memorial Hospital as a CNA.  In, 1984 Ella began working with the FL Department of Children and Families (formerly known as HRS) as a switchboard operator and in 1986, she became a Food Stamp Eligibility Specialist.  Also in 1986, Ella became disabled due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Nevertheless, she continued to work at Putnam Behavioral Healthcare as a Day Treatment Agent. In 1990 she worked in Social Services for the Palatka Housing Authority for 2 years.  For 5 years (1992-1997), Ella worked as an Office Manager for Abe Alexander at Safe Touch Security.  In 1997, Ella worked as an Office Manager for Body Max Physical Therapy where she later retired due to disability in 2007. She was a member of New St. Paul Church where she served as a church mother until declining health prevailed.

Ella Mae Appling Glover went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, May 26, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  sons, Daryl D. Haley, Baron  B. Jones Sr.; grandsons; Baron B. Jones Jr, Braxton D. Jones; granddaughter, Sadies B. Jones; sisters, Audrey Johnson, Miami; Alveta (Oscar) Williams, Helen F. Wright, Rose A. Junior, Sharon K. (Kenneth) Walker all of Palatka; brother, Bernard Lewis, Palatka; nieces & nephews, Yvette (Charles) Edwards, Sanford; LaBraun Harris, Orlando; Thedford (Josie) Clark, Beaufort, SC; Osteria (Pastor Herbert L., Jr) Johnson, East Palatka; Brandon Wilkerson, Pastor Jarvis F. (Karla) Wright, Sr., Palatka; Jamisha Wright, Myrtle Beach, SC; Kendra Walker & Kenneth Walker Jr, Palatka; Brittany Lewis, Fleming Island; Christopher Lewis, Jacksonville; Brandi (Guy) Brown, Austell, GA; Gregory (Brittany) Williams, Jr., Trinity; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 2 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 2 p.m., Saturday, June 3 at Calvary's Family Life Center, 1414 Bronson Street, Palatka, Reverend Herbert L. Johnson, Jr., Pastor. Ella Mae's nephew, Pastor Jarvis F. Wright, Sr., New Saint Paul Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
