Elizabeth "Liz" Mims-Pinckney, 66, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Monday, August 27, 2018 at UF Shands, Gainesville. A native of Crescent City, she was the daughter of David and Emily (Cohen) Mims, Sr., born on Tuesday, December 4, 1951. She was a 1969 graduate of Middleton High School, Crescent City. "Liz" earned her educational degrees at Edward Waters College of Jacksonville. She was formerly employed as an Administrative Secretary at Bethune-Cookman College for over a decade. Upon returning to her hometown, she became a Business Education instructor in the Putnam County School District at the Crescent City Jr.-Sr., High School, retiring following 23 years of exemplary service. She was a committed Christian with a loving, kindred spirit and a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess, Church Clerk, and sang in the church choir. Her duties to the church went beyond Friendship, she also served as Chairperson of the program committee for the Ministers Deacons and Deaconesses Union #2 of the St. Johns River Baptist Association. She was also affiliated with The Concerned Citizens of South Putnam, serving as Secretary; and former member of the Electa Burney Chapter #2, Order of Eastern Star (OES). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, James Pinckney and brother-in-law, Charles Hodge.
She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted daughter, Maia Pinckney, Crescent City; brothers, David (Barbara) Mims, High Point, NC; John Mims, Pensacola; Harold (Belinda) Mims, Frisco TX; sister, Mamie Hodge, Atlanta, GA; special cousin, Mamie Mack, Tampa; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 5-7 p.m., Saturday, September 8 at Friendship Baptist Church, 286 Smiley Store Road, Crescent City, Rev. Michael Robinson, Pastor. Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m., Sunday, September 9 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church (South Putnam Campus), 608 Randolph Street, Crescent City. Reverend James Vickers, Pastor of New Mt. Tamo Baptist Church, Pomona Park and Past Moderator, St. Johns River Baptist Association, is the eulogist; Pastor Michael Robinson, presiding.
