Elizabeth "Betty" Brown, 72, of San Mateo, transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center. A native of Jacksonville, she was the daughter of Seymour and Catherine Hightower Brown, born on Sunday, August 25, 1940. She was educated in the Duval County Public School system. In 1963 she relocated to Palatka, subsequently residing in San Mateo since 1979. She was a member of the Palatka House of God Church. "Betty" was a 26-year employee in the Tissue Converting Department of Georgia-Pacific and gardening was her hobby. In addition to her father, "Betty" was preceded in eternal rest by her mother and stepfather, Catherine and Robert L. Smith; brother, Stanley Brown. Those who treasure the loving memories: daughters, Claretha Arnold and Cicely Brown, both of Jacksonville; Doreen Brown and Cynthia McKinnon, both of San Mateo; Shirley Brown and Bettie Brown Thomas, both of Palatka; sons, Larry Brown, East Palatka; Harvey Brown and Cornell (Meredith) Brown, both of Palatka; Keith Shorter, San Mateo; brothers, Nathaniel Brown, Bronx, NY; Theo Brown, Jacksonville; 35 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and caring friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Palatka House of God Church, 723 N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St., Palatka, Dr. Gilbert L. Evans, Jr., Pastor, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Pattersonville Memorial Cemetery, East Palatka. The cortege will assemble at 10:10 a.m. Saturday at the Brown's family residence.
