Obituary

Edward Duke Hines, the son of Acy and Rendie (Pickett) Hines, was born on Monday, August 17, 1931 in Cairo, Georgia.  Edward was the third of four children. From eight months old to his high school graduation, Edward resided with his family in East Palatka, Florida. He enjoyed high school sports, especially football and in high school, he subsequently met his future wife, Lillian Wright.

Edward joined the U.S. Army six days after graduating from high school. He and three of his Class of 1950 Central Academy classmates enlisted in the Third Infantry Division.  Edward returned from Korea on August 12, 1951 and he and Lillian married on September 1, 1952, in a union that lasted over 70 years. To this union, two children were born, Eric and Linda. Eric retired with the U.S. Army Special Forces, while Linda retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Army. It was Edward's personal decision to join the military and he often reiterated "I thought it was my duty to serve in the military."  It was that decision that led Edward Hines to a 30+ year career in the Army, where he received  the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star for bravery.  After retiring from the military, Edward taught electrical welding at Texas Tech.  Later he worked and retired from Goodyear.

Edward and Lillian have served faithfully as members of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Edward enjoyed maintaining his yard and physical training three times a week until declining health prevailed.

He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents; sister, Ethel Mae Hines Bryant; brother, Roscoe D. Hines.
