Obituary

Douglas Tyrone "Doug" Johnson, Sr., 59, of East Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, August 27, 2021 at Ocala Regional Medical Center, Ocala. The son of Henry Johnson and Josephine Crawford, he was born on Friday, December 22, 1961. Doug was educated in the Putnam County School District. He was a 1979 graduate of Palatka High School. Doug worked at Matthews Moving & Storage and Atlas Buildings Unlimited & True Trusses as a forklift driver/operator for many, many years.

Doug enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Miami Hurricanes. Rain or shine – he was a faithful fan. His hobbies included fishing, spending time with family, having cookouts, hanging out with his brothers-in-law (Cleve, George & Bobby Hobbs), watching sports, and passing the day. Doug was gifted with the ability to build anything with wood; woodwork was his passion.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in eternal rest by his sisters, Lula M. Chester and Bernice Woods; brother, Dan Crawford; maternal grandparents, Major Crawford, Sr., and Fannie K. Crawford; an aunt, Hilda Parker; and uncles, Irvin Crawford and Robert Crawford.

He leaves to cherish his memories: beloved and devoted wife of 34 years, Tammie (Hobbs) Johnson (since June 27, 1987); daughter, Rashunda (Charles) Robinson of Daytona; son, Douglas "D.J." (Brittany McDaniel) Johnson, Jr., of Palatka; brothers, Carl H. Johnson and Marvin C. (Myrtis) Johnson, Sr.; sisters, Geneva (Cecil Sr.) Johnson-Anderson of East Palatka, and Annie M. (Roy) Deering of Palatka; grandchildren, Cherish Robinson and Christian Robinson, both of Daytona, and Demarius Johnson and JaDarius Johnson, both of Palatka; uncle and aunt, Ruby Phillips and Vivian Crawford, both of Irvington, NJ; sisters-in-law, Earlene (Albert) Lewis of Bowie, MD, Pam Zanders of Palatka, Christine (Joseph) Borden of Jacksonville, Thelma (Willie T.) Johnson of Newark, DE, Tereatha (Donald Williams) Hobbs of Tallahassee, Freddy Mae Hobbs of Albany, GA, and Mary (Clint) Thomas of Palatka; brothers- in-law, Albert (Dollie) Hobbs of Nolanville, TX, Kenneth (Gloria) Hobbs of Jacksonville, and Cleveland Hobbs, George Hobbs, and Anthony "Bobby" Hobbs, all of Palatka; godmother, Carrie Mae Simon; godchild, C'aira Borden; special friends, Vincent Hill and Ben Cooper; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

(Mandatory CDC guidelines for social distancing and masks required): A Celebration of Doug's Life will be 12 noon, Saturday, September 4, at Oak Hill West Cemetery, 712 S. Palm Avenue, Palatka. Reverend Darrell Gilyard, Pastor, Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Jacksonville, officiating.
