Dorothy Elizabeth Warren Womble, 100, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her residence. Dorothy, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Grayson) Warren, was a native of Washington, DC, born on Thursday, July 12, 1917. Dorothy, the first born of eight children, attended school in Washington, D.C., and Prince George's County School District in Maryland. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Maryland, the only High School in the area for Black Students at that time.
A retired Federal Government Employee, Dorothy served over 40 plus years with the Civil Service Department of Navy in Arlington, VA, as a data processing specialist. Prior to her employment with the Federal Government, she held several jobs including, a private Nanny and a Cosmopolitan, to name a few. In 1933, Dorothy met and married her one and only love, George Arthur Womble and in marriage they became the proud parents of one daughter, Patricia. (George passed away at the age of 35 and Dorothy never remarried, but dedicated her life to raising their daughter.) She lovingly lived up to that task by being the most dedicated and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother ever. She was a kind and caring person and God blessed her to enjoy 100 years here on earth.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in eternal rest by her siblings, Louise, Helen, Inez, Valerie, Kathleen, and Joseph; grandson, Lance Horne.
She came from a loving family who will miss her dearly and cherish countless memories: devoted daughter, Patricia Y. Webster, Palm Coast; brother, Lawrence (Lorraine) Hill, Hollywood; 3 grandsons, Justin O'Brien, Phoenix, AZ; Eric (Nancy) Horne, Sr., Eldersburg, MD; Thomas F. (Tinel) Horne II, Port Tobacco, MD; granddaughter, Gail (Walter) Sanders, Laurel, MD; daughter-in-law, Darrean Horne, Millersville, MD; 6 great-grandsons, Eric (Lisa) Horne, II, US Navy; Lance Horne, Tyler Horne, Sr., Thomas Horne, III; Colin Horne, Tristan Horne; 2 great-granddaughters, Kimberly (Aldo) DiPasqwa, Christina Horne; 1 great-great grandson, Tyler Horne II; devoted nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.
A Memorial Service in honor of Dorothy's Life will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 27, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Pine Lakes Parkway S, Palm Coast, Reverend Edwin Coffie, Pastor is the eulogist.
