Dorothy Ann Bennett Jones, 75, of St. Augustine (Elwood Community), entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Moultrie Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, St. Augustine. A native and lifelong resident of Elwood, she was born on Sunday, May 16, 1943 to James Bennett, Sr., and Thelma Lee King Bennett. She was educated in the St. Johns County School System and attended Florida Memorial College and St. Augustine Vocational-Technical Institute where she earned her nursing certification. She subsequently began a rewarding, lifelong career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at numerous institutions, including Green Cove Springs Geriatric Center, Bayview of St. Augustine, and retired at San Marco Terrace, St. Augustine in 2013. Dorothy was united in marriage to Samuel James Jones, Sr., for 51 years and they were the proud parents of two daughters. She was a compassionate woman who loved and cherished her husband and family. She was a devoted Deaconess at New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Picolata.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her brothers, James, Jr., Kenneth, Ralph and Milton Bennett.

She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted daughters, Gwendolyn Jones Lewis and Jacqueline Michelle Gaddis, both of St. Augustine; granddaughters, Brittney Jaleesea Lewis, Ravyn Michaela Gaddis, both of St. Augustine; great-grandchildren, Lorenzo Rese Matthews, Savannah Faith Matthews, both of St. Augustine; sisters and brothers, Betty Foster and Joanne Rowe, both of St. Augustine; Christine Darby and Barbara Shurman, both of Jacksonville; Steve Bennett and Shirley Jenkins, both of Green Cove Springs; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 15 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 1300 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Green Cove Springs, Reverend Robert L. Wright, host Pastor. Reverend Pernell Raggins, Sr., Pastor, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, St. Augustine, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Green Cove Springs.
