Doris Marceline Simpson, 91, of Jacksonville, entered the sunset of life on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Community Hospice St. Vincent's Riverside Center, Jacksonville. The daughter of Otha Drake and Mary (Saunders) Drake, she was born on Saturday, December 14, 1929 in Clarksville, TN. Doris was a 1948 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Burke High School (Clarksville, TN). She furthered her education at Freedmen's School of Nursing at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Doris was employed with the Lexington Clinic Lab for 30 years, worked as a nurse for NARCO, and later was employed with The Federal Correctional Institution as a Correctional Officer (30 years). During her tenure as a Correctional Officer, she was employed with the Department of Juvenile Justice as a supervisor. In her later years, Doris was employed at Worldwide Security (now known as TSA) and Dillard's in the Fayette Mall, Lexington, KY.

She was a former resident of Lexington, KY where she was a member of Total Grace Church. Upon transitioning to St. Augustine, she became a member of New Mt. Moriah Christian Ministry where she served as the Church Mother. Her hobbies included: reading, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and tailoring.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Harry Claude Simpson, Sr.; brother, Karl Drake, Sr.; best friend, Alice Woods Jackson.
