Doris "Sugar Doll" Moriah Purdy, 93, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at her Eagle Street residence. Doris was a native of McAlpine, Florida born Monday, August 24, 1914 to Shelton & Lula (Demps) Haynes, Sr. She was a longtime resident of Palatka, retired private housekeeper and retired owner/ operator of Doris Candy Store. Her hobbies included crocheting, fishing, and quilting. She is preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Willie Purdy Sr., son, Willie Purdy, Jr., sisters, Mary Fennell, Mozell Cook, and Pearlie Haynes; brothers, Shelton Haynes, Jr. & Henry Haynes; grandchildren, Christopher Chance & Bobbie Jean Chance.
To cherish her memories; Daughters, Carrie B. Chance, Jacksonville; Carrie M. Purdy, Lula (Gerald) Hamilton, Pastor Nita (Sammy) Bryant, & Pastor Joretta (Pastor Alonza) Cooks, all of Palatka, Son, James (Patricia) Purdy, Palatka; Sister, Mazie Williams, Gainesville; 22 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, July 11, 2008, 5-8pm at the "Chapel of Serenity". Homegoing services will be Saturday, July 12th, 3 pm at To God Be The Glory Holiness Church, 3521 St. Johns Ave., Dr. Ruth Lowe Reaves, Pastor, presiding. Elder Alonzo Mulberry, pastor of Soul Mission C.O.G.I.C., is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
