Obituary

Doris Virginia Waters Bryant, 84, of East Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center-South, Jacksonville. The daughter of James and Hazel (Keene) Waters, she was born on Sunday, April 23, 1933 in Jacksonville. She was educated in the Duval County School District and a graduate of Boylan-Haven School for Girls, Jacksonville. She continued her pursuit of higher education, earning a B.S. degree in Elementary Education, Bethune-Cookman College, Daytona Beach.

On May 20, 1955, Doris was united in Holy Matrimony to Moses Marion Bryant. For many years the Bryant family worshipped and served together at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, East Palatka. Her professional 37-year teaching and counseling career in the Putnam County School District, includes meritorious service at James A. Long Elementary School and other elementary schools in West and South Putnam County, respectively. She was a faithful member and Deaconess of Victorious Faith Church of God in Christ. Doris was a loyal sorority sister of the Chi Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and was a member and past president of the Women's Educational, Social, Civic, and Arts Club (WESCA). Her hobbies included gardening, reading and playing the piano.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by siblings, Gerri Bartlett, Claudia Henry, and James Waters.

She leaves to cherish her memories: devoted husband of 62 years, Moses Marion Bryant, Sr., East Palatka; daughter and sons, Terri (Jerome) Hill, Jacksonville; Moses (Robin) Bryant, Jr., Carrolton, GA; Wendell (Atsuko) Bryant, Peoria, AZ; sisters and brothers, Lois Mixon, Phyllis Holden, Annette Bryant, LaRita (James) Tanner, Amilida Anderson, Jackie (Winston) McIntosh, Lowee (John) McIntosh, Floyd (Inez) Waters, A. Randolph (Gail) Waters; sister-in-law, Juanita Thomas; 7 grandchildren, Mario "B.J." (Tori) Bryant, Crystal Bryant Buchanan, Janet (Omar) Lyle, Jennifer Bryant, Nicholas Kirkland, Shalanna (George) Hill Bailey, Moses Bryant, III; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, July 21 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 22, at Victorious Faith Church of God in Christ, 823 Husson Avenue, Palatka, Superintendent H. Wayne Colbert, Sr., Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in the Bryant Family's plot in Pattersonville Cemetery, East Palatka.
