Dennis Gregory "Cuz" Barnes, 53, of Decatur, GA, entered the sunset of life on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, GA. A native of Crescent City, Gregory was born on Friday, September 4, 1959 to James & Etta (Norris) Barnes. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and a 1977 graduate of Crescent City High School. He subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army and earned numerous commendations including, Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter Qualification Badge (w/Rifle Bar M16). Following his retirement he resided in several Florida cities before he resided in Decatur, GA the last ten years. Those who cherish his memories: son, Lovell Tramaine Barnes, Decatur, GA; step-daughter, Lazendria Shcrystal Gray, Atlanta, GA; mother, Etta Barnes, Orange City; father & step-mother, James (Agnes) Barnes, Crescent City; brothers & sisters, Eddie (Marilyn) Milton, Oakland, CA; Murray (Jaconica) Barnes, Stuart; Ronald (Patricia) Barnes, Sanford; Bruce (Alice) Barnes, Palm Coast; Billy (Louise) Williams, Orlando; Byron Barnes, Melbourne; Diane Barnes, Orange City; Josephine Blocker, Crescent City; Debra (Anthony) Graham, Deland; Lovata (Prince) Slaughter, Crescent City; 2 grandchildren, Lovell Tarmaine Barnes, Jr.; Azaria Sherrell Barnes; special uncle, Robert Douglas; special cousin, Edsel Brown, aunts, Joyce Bell and Olivia Wilson and host of niece, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at the "Chapel of Serenity". Homegoing Celebration with Military Honors will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12th at the "Chapel of Serenity", 2400 Madison Street, Palatka. Dr. Jacqueline A. Moore, D.Min., pastor, Anointed Word Family Worship Center, Apopka is the eulogist. Interment will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 14th at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
