Obituary

Delores A. Brothers Holley, 93, of Palm Coast (native of Norfolk, VA) entered the sunset of life on Monday, July 11, 2022 at AdventHealth Hospice Care at Stuart F. Meyer, Palm Coast surrounded by her loving family.

To all who love Delores Audrey "Mickey" Brothers Holley…we, her children–Howard Marcellus Holley, Eugenia Diane Holley Wright, and Elton Dwight Holley, invite you to join us in celebrating our beloved Mama and her 93 years of life. In the company of loved ones, she transitioned and ascended home to join her mama, daddy, and other ancestors on Monday, July 11, 2022.  She will continue to be a cherished sweetheart, sister, friend, aunt, cousin, wife, mama, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, storyteller, mentor, listener, caregiver, and child of God.

A native of Norfolk, VA and daughter of Clifford and Cora Brothers, she was born on Saturday, October 20, 1928 and was the youngest of eight. She nurtured her spirituality and connection to church early in life when she was baptized at the age of eleven. Full of wit and curiosity, Delores excelled in Norfolk public schools and graduated from high school at the age of sixteen. She enrolled in the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College, where she was an outstanding cheerleader and part of the homecoming court. Delores was united in marriage to John H. Holley, and became a mother to Howard, Eugenia, and Elton.

Responsibility, service, and care became essential parts of her everyday life ministry as she enjoyed helping and caring for her family, including her nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends. Her work in the home and community continued to be shaped by her love for service and caring for others. She whole-heartedly guided the development of young people with special learning needs at the Interdisciplinary Diagnostic Prescriptive Center [IDP] and The Special Education Department of Norfolk Public Schools.

In April 1988 at the age of 59, Delores moved from Norfolk to Nashville, TN to accept the challenge of supporting her daughter with her newborn son and two young daughters. She lived in Nashville for 28 years, growing as a matriarch and guide for her grandchildren and community of loved ones. In 2016, she moved to Palm Coast, FL to join her son and daughter-in-law, where she made new friends, spent time with family, and enjoyed time with her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Delores treasured spending quality time with family and showed her love through words and actions. She shared her big heart and sweet spirit generously, guided by the light of God and love, valuing connection along the way. As she moved with grace through joys, pains, triumphs, and challenges, she wove a glorious tapestry of family that includes relatives, chosen family, confidantes, and loved ones of all ages. She is affectionately known by many names of endearment–Mama, Aunt Mickey, Grandma, Mother Holley, Mama Holley, Mom Holley, and more. Her sweet spirit & energy will be missed!  All who love her will continue to be inspired by her life and her love. She will continue to be a cherished sweetheart, sister, friend, aunt, cousin, wife, mama, grandma, great-grandma, great-great-grandma, storyteller, mentor, listener, caregiver, and child of God.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in eternal rest by her siblings, William (Marjorie) Brothers, Robert (Martha) Brothers, Eugene (Margaret) Brothers, Joseph (Alta) Brothers, Gladys Shigg; special friends/family, Connie Banks, Winnie Osborne, Martha Corley, Gladys Johnson, and Thomasine Pruden.
