David "Shep" Sheffield, a native of Satsuma, was born on Monday, July 24, 1916 to Henry and Nola Nelson Sheffield. He was a longtime resident of Palatka who for the past 9 years resided with his caregiving daughter, Shirley in Orange Park. "Mr. Sheffield" was a lifelong commercial fisherman who owned and operated David's Fishery on Palatka's northside for many years until retirement. He was united in marriage to Etta Bell Brown Sheffield for 76 years (she preceded him in eternal rest on Sunday, February 21, 2010.) He confessed Christ as his personal Saviour was baptized and became a member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. His favorite hobbies included fishing, cooking and reading. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in eternal rest by his son, John Bell. Brother Sheffield entered the sunset of life at 3:41 a.m., on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Orange Park Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter and sons, Shirley A. Sheffield and Arthur David Sheffield, both of Orange Park; Ronald Sheffield, Tampa; adopted daughter (granddaughter), Patsy Sheffield Lherisson, Miami; siblings, Geraldine Brown; Jacob (Annie Mae) Spell, both of Palatka; sister-in-law Geraldine Longmire, Middleburg; brother-in-law, Ozzie Brown, Richmond, VA; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; devoted caring granddaughter Beverly (Wendell) Purifoy, Jacksonville; devoted nephew, Reverend Ernest (Bonnie) Sheffield, Daytona Beach; goddaughter, Istash (Roosevelt) Young, Jacksonville, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
