Reverend David Nixon, Sr., 67, of Crescent City, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at his residence. A native of Baldwin, FL., he was born on Thursday, September 26, 1946 to William Bell (Fannie Mae) Nixon. He was educated in the Duval County School District. In 1965, David and his family relocated to Indianapolis, IN and he was employed as an electrician at Community Hospital for over 25 years. Since the mid-to- late 1980's, David has resided in Crescent City. He was a faithful member and ordained minister at Friendship Baptist Church, Crescent City under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Michael Robinson. David worked part-time at the former Burrell's Funeral Home, Crescent City. He loved spending time with family and friends and his hobbies included fishing, cookouts and meeting people. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in eternal rest by his siblings, Charles "Wesley" Nixon, Frank Nixon, Edna Herring, Maggie Williams, and Cornelius Kelly. Those who cherish his memories: 3 sons, David Nixon, Jr., Derrick Nixon, and Charles Nixon, all of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Tyrone Nixon, Palatka; Shantelle Nixon, Crescent City; mother of his children (former wife), Sandra "Sandy" Nixon, Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Ruby Nixon, Crescent City; special friend, Mary Simmons, Crescent City; "like a brother," Virgil Cross, Indianapolis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and sorrowing friends. Visitation of family and friends will be from 9-11 a.m. with Homegoing Services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Friendship Baptist Church, 286 Smiley Store Road, Crescent City. The Reverend Michael Robinson, Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Crescent City. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Karl N. Flagg Serenity Memorial Chapel, Palatka.
