David Marcus Givens, 30, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Shands & UF Medical Center, Gainesville. Affectionately called "Double O" or "Movie Man," Marcus was born on Tuesday, September 18, 1984 in Gainesville, Florida. The son of David Lee Givens, Jr. and Mattie Levetta Bartley Givens, he was educated in the Putnam County School District. At an early age Marcus was baptized and introduced to his Lord and Savior at his family's church, Greater Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. He later attended Abundant Life Ministries. "Double O" was employed at Burger King and also sold movies throughout the city and surrounding areas and gaining the name "Movie Man." His proudest responsibility was being a devoted and loving father to his children. He was an avid WWF, basketball and football fan with a special love for the Miami Hurricanes. "Marcus" never met a stranger and would greet everyone with a smile. His heart of gold and priceless sense of humor touched many lives. "Double O" really loved his family and stayed connected to as many as possible, often calling or texting them on their special occasions. "Marcus" was treasured by many and will never be forgotten. Marcus was preceded in eternal rest by his parents; sister, Latrisha Preshay Smith; maternal great-grandmother, Arabella Davis; aunt, Shirley Gale Bartley; cousin, Carlton King. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Loreal Labigang -Givens, Orange Park, children, D'Tavia Marshanti Givens, D'Maris Maurice Givens, and D'Anna Maria Givens, all of Palatka; stepchildren, Edward Parton, Brittany Drew, and Tiffani Thomas, Orange Park; brother, Anterio Lovar Smith Sr., Palatka; nephew, Anterio Lovar Smith Jr., Palatka; maternal grandparents, Mildred Christine Bartley, Palatka, Willie (Linda) Bartley, Green Cove Springs ; paternal grandparents, David (Susie) Givens, Green Cove Springs; devoted friend, Amanda Hines, Palatka; and a host of other relatives and loving friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, July 31 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." A Celebration of Marcus' life will be 2 p.m., Saturday, August 1, at Abundant Life Ministries, 890 North State Road 19, Palatka, Pastor Chad Willis. His uncle, Reverend Richard L. Bartley, Sr., of Pathway Christian Center, Nashville, TN, is the Eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
