Darnell "Dale" Brown, 66, of Interlachen, entered the sunset of life on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka. A native of Hawthorne, he was the son of Loucious and Ida Bell (Gordon) Brown, born on Saturday, July 16, 1955. He was educated in the Putnam County School District and a 1973 graduate of Interlachen High School. In the late 80s, Darnell worked with his father at the family's business – Brown's Vault Company. On June 11, 1990, Darnell became gainfully employed with the City of Palatka as a laborer, and later became a foreman, and subsequently the Cemetery's Supervisor until retirement following 26 years of dedicated, exemplary service on February 11, 2016. Darnell worked as a Billboard Poster for Peterson Outdoor Advertising and Naegele Outdoor Advertising. He also worked with his son at Brown's Performance, Gainesville.
In his early years, Darnell was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Hawthorne and often attended worship with his wife and family at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Palatka. Darnell was a hard-working man who enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and hanging out with his dogs, especially his pits- Bella and Shadow.
He was preceded in eternal rest by his father.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife of 37 years, Stella M. Brown; mother, Ida Bell (Gordon) Brown; sons, Craig Brown, Interlachen; Kametris Campbell, Hawthorne; Darnell Brown, Gainesville; Darminquell (Tiama) Brown, Orlando; Darrielle Brown, Tampa; DeAdrell Brown, Interlachen; daughter, Marica (Chris) Johnson, Tampa; 6 grandchildren, Craig Brown, Jr., Kametris Campbell, Jr., Quinadra Williams, Quanvious Cooper, Zy'Andre Cooper, Za'Kylah Seymore; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Loucious (Victoria) Brown, Interlachen; sisters, Everlena (Reverend Nathaniel) Sommons, Hawthorne; aunts and uncles, Mary Lazare, Catherine Douglas, both of Deerfield Beach; Nora Carter, Palatka; Alfred Brown, Hawthorne; Julian Johnson, Venessie Nichols, Bessie Hayes, all of St. Petersburg; godchildren, LaWanda Lowery, Rodney Manning, Mario Mack; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of family and friends will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, August 20 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Darnell's Life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, August 21 at Palatka High School, 302 Mellon Road, Palatka. Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Senior Pastor of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
