Obituary

Darlene "Dollbaby" Cook, 61, of South Daytona, entered the sunset of life on Friday, July 3, 2020 at Kindred Hospital North Florida, Green Cove Springs. The daughter of Roy S. and Rosa E. (Willis) Cook, she was born on Thursday, November 20, 1958 in Deland, FL. "Dollbaby" as affectionately known within her family was the sixth child of eight raised in Seville, FL. In 1961, (at the age of 3) the family relocated to Modena, NY and she attended Modena Elementary School. In 1968 (at the age of 10), the family moved back to Seville and she attended Seville Elementary School. Darlene was a 1976 graduate of T. Dewitt Taylor High School in Pierson, FL. She was the starting pitcher (who led them to the state championship) on the Taylor Wildcats' softball team. Darlene also attended Florida College, Jacksonville (Concorde Career Institution) where she earned an associate's degree and her Medical Office Administration, Medical Assistant, and Medical Billing and Coding certifications. She was also a licensed notary. Darlene was subsequently employed with several companies prior to joining Florida Hospital (now AdventHealth). Her career spanned over 20 years as she honorably served as a Medical Assistant and Front Office Manager. She was formerly employed with Ormond Family Care and later as a Patient Service Coordinator with Barr & Associates Physical Therapy, Ormond Beach, FL.

From her early childhood years, Darlene was very shy. "Dollbaby" was a gentle, caring, humble, and kindred-hearted soul always ready and willing to give her very last to someone in need. As a teenager, she served as the Choir President at St. Johns Missionary Baptist Church in Seville where she served as a song leader; served as an Usher and taught Sunday School. She would also cook and lead fundraisers to financially support the choir. She served her church and community faithfully.

As she continued her pursuit of spiritual maturity along this tedious journey seeking to develop a personal, intimate relationship with the Lord, her work spoke volumes about the calling on her life. She became an ordained Minister while affiliated with Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, Seville. She subsequently united with True Foundation Ministries of Crescent City, serving on the Street Outreach team and with the Prison Ministries.

Serving the Lord through evangelism on the battlefield is where she began to grow stronger in her commitment to the Lord. In the early 2000's she was led to join Pentecostal Full Gospel Crusade Church (PFGC) under the leadership of Apostle Bernard and Pastor Lillie Tuggerson. Her call to the gospel ministry was certified and she was officially ordained to continue serving the people of God.

As a member of Victory Worship Center, Crescent City, Minister Darlene fervently served as the lead Worship and Arts Minister, Hospitality team, Prayer Team and the Ministerial Board. She served with passion and dedication and truly believed that her first ministry should always be to her family. She resided with and assisted her parents well into adulthood until they entered eternal rest. "Dollbaby" walways inquired about the wellbeing of everyone in her family, every single day, even in spite of and in the midst of her own sickness.

Thanksgiving 2019 was one of the last big family events and great times that "Dollbaby" served her family. She took the challenge upon herself to prepare and cook everything with the exception of a few sides. She desired to have her family together at her residence and that's exactly what she fulfilled. The week following the family gathering is when God commenced preparing her to transition to her new eternal home. She went through both the highs and lows, nevertheless, her faith in God NOT ONCE wavered and never became insecure or unstable. Even while enduring pain and suffering, "Dollbaby" continued to ask her daughter about everybody and wanted to specifically know how they were doing.

On Friday evening, July 3, 2020, at Seven Forty-Three post meridian, Minister Darlene Cook heard the welcoming voice of her Lord and Savior. She surrendered her earthly place for the eternal place she had always talked about, prayed about, preached about and lived her life to reach. After spending several hours with her "heart" (her brother, Stanley), and being ultimately surrounded by the rest of her siblings and family, she earned her wings, took her flight, and now wears her crown, that she so well deserved.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in eternal rest by her sisters, Vivian (Carlton) McDonald, Miriam Cook, and Deborah Cook; brother, James Cook, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memories and legacy: her one and only loving and caring daughter, Nekiesha Quinn; her only devoted granddaughter, (her "Moo-Moo" & "Prophetess Diva") Gabriella K. Burrell, both of South Daytona; two brothers , Wayne Cook, Seville; Stanley (Rosetta) Cook, Crescent City; baby sister , Valerie (Ricky) Rhodes, Sylvania, GA; sister-in-law , Belinda Cook, Sarasota; a host of nieces and nephews, especially, niece/first daughter , Vonetta (Kevin) Cook, Jacksonville; devoted niece, Sylvia Cook, Crescent City; nephew , Stacy (Latina) Cook, Welaka; god-sister , Idella (Bobby) Reese, Seville; god-daughter , Cornethia (Terrance) Forman, Palatka; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, co-workers and church family.

In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines (including required masks) a limited, socially-distanced visitation of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, July 10 at Victory Worship Center, 1022 Huntington Road, Crescent City. Private interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Seville. "Dollbaby" requested a joyful Worship Celebration and it will commence at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11 at First Baptist Church of Pomona Park, Rev. Gary Munson, host Pastor. Apostle Dr. Lillie Tuggerson, Immerse Church, Ocala, Senior Pastor/Overseer, is the eulogist.
