Obituary

Dannie Lee Williams, 53, of Palatka, was found transitioned on Sunday, August 17, 2014, one day after he was last seen canoeing on the Rodman Reservoir. A native of Palatka, Dannie was the son of Donald Ray Williams & Claudia Mae Brinson, born on Tuesday, September 27, 1960. He was a 1978 graduate of Palatka High School. Following graduation, Dannie immediately enlisted into the United States Army. Attaining the rank of SP4, Dannie earned numerous honors, including the Army Service Ribbon, Mechanics Badge, and Sharpshooter (M-16 Rifle). His last duty assignment was with the 1st AG Company, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, KS, where he earned an Honorable discharge on January 22, 1982. Upon returning to his hometown, he was employed by Florida Furniture Industries, Southwell's Restaurant, and for the past 16 years he was a loyal G-P employee, initially at the plywood plant in Hawthorne and subsequently, the paper mill in Palatka. Dannie was united in marriage to the former Marilyn Essie Smith for over 30 years. He was a member of First Born Church of the Living God, where he served in the choir. Dannie was an avid UF Gator fan and Palatka High School Panther's biggest cheerleader. Dannie was also an outdoorsman and landscaper who enjoyed working and was well-known for his "green thumb." Dannie was preceded in eternal rest by his father, Donald Ray Williams; devoted father who raised him, Eugene Johnson, Sr.; "special father" Gene Buchanan; and brother, Craig Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife and best friend of 31 years, Marilyn E. Williams, Palatka; mother, Claudia Mae Brinson Johnson, Palatka; sons and daughters, Corey White, Vernon (Dawn) Hankerson, Cecilia (Robert) Hankerson, Toneisha Kaymore, all of Palatka; Eric (Crystal) Smith, Jacksonville; Kieyachtta (Michael) Rollins, Marion, SC; brothers and sisters, Eugene Johnson, Jr., Kenneth (Tangela) Johnson, Keith Johnson, Victor (Teresa) Johnson, Trena Johnson, Felecia McCormick, Tangela Johnson, Lakesha (Tommy) Curry, Charlotte (James) Mathews, Vontrece (Eddie) Brown, Laquita "Shawn" (Tony) Williams, all of Palatka; Corey (Shawnee) Floyd, Wilmington, DE; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; numerous loving aunts & uncles, caring sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, sorrowing friends and special people, including, Mr. & Mrs. D. A. Martinez; "special mother", Mrs. Patricia Buchanan; "special brother" Danny (Darlene) Buchanan; "special sister" Debbie Buchanan. A Fellowship of family and friends (no public viewing) will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 22, with a Special Remembrance Tribute from 6-7 p.m. at the "Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 23rd, at Mount Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Reverend Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Bishop W. L. Smith, Pastor of First Born Church of the Living God, Eulogist and Superintendent H. Wayne Colbert, Victorious Faith COGIC, presiding. Interment with Military Honors will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
