Danielle Denese Washington, 40, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Kettering Medical Center, Kettering, OH. The daughter of Anthony Major and Naomi Washington, she was a native of St. Augustine, born on Sunday, February 13, 1977. She was a 1995 graduate of St. Augustine High School. Upon graduation, she enlisted into the United States Army and honorably served our nation (January 1996 – September 2003.) SPC (E-4) Washington earning numerous medallions and commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge. After receiving an honorable discharge, she continued serving via the Department of Defense as a government contractor performing numerous jobs overseas.
After returning to the United States, Danielle volunteered her services at a local funeral home while attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a Forensic Investigator. Presently, Danielle was enrolled and anticipating completion of her degree (July 2017) in the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program with specialization in Forensic Science through Aspen University. Danielle was a Quality Assurance Technician in the chemical lab at Bastech in Jacksonville, Florida.
Danielle was a longtime and dedicated member of New St. James Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Nathaniel Jackson, where she served the youth in many capacities. She was influential in the lives of many, serving anytime there was a need. Danielle joined A.R.E.M.E. of Babylon Chapter #179 (Baghdad, Iraq), the Order of the Eastern Star, PHA, Oklahoma Jurisdiction in 2009. Danielle has held the position of Associate Matron and has had the honor to sit in the East as the Worthy Matron. Danielle touched the lives and hearts of many. Known for her outgoing personality, vibrant smile and willingness to lend a helping hand to those around her, she will be truly missed.
She was preceded in eternal rest by her mother, Naomi Washington; grandmother, Shelley Ann Davie; uncle, Fredrick McKinley; great-uncle and aunt (affectionately known as Papa and Nanny), George and Mozella Lagree.
In departing this earthly life and transitioning to eternity, Danielle leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted fiancé, Robby Anderson; daughter, Brielle Armster; father, Anthony Major; sisters, Destiny Washington, Jessica Davis, and LaRonda Major; aunts, Belinda (John) Holliman, Clyde Luvenia Jenkins, Deborah Bush, Cheryl (Ricardo) Bryant, Jeanne (Herbert) Wyche; uncle, Walter Major, Allen Brown; godson, Willie Smith, III; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving and devoted friends.
Celebration of Danielle's Life will be 10 a.m., Monday, May 15, at The Chapel of St. Johns Family Funeral Home, 385 SR 207, St. Augustine, with visitation 8-10 a.m. Monday. Reverend Arthur Williams, Lay Minister of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, St. Augustine, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
