Dr. Cynthia Ann Humphrey Fitz, 53, of Gainesville, entered the sunset of life surrounded by her family on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, Roberts Care Center. A native of Hastings, she was the daughter of Ulysses Sr., and Gertrude Robinson Humphrey, born Tuesday, May 28, 1957. She graduated from Hastings High School, class of 75. After which she matriculated to Bethune-Cookman College (now Bethune-Cookman University) and earned a Bachelors Degree in Sociology in 1979. She later attended Jacksonville Theological Seminary, earning both a Masters in 2002 and her PhD in Clinical Christian Psychology in 2004. On August 27, 1983, Cynthia was united in marriage to Tracy Henry Fitz and they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Chantel. Cynthia loved the Lord and her family as she grew up in Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Hastings and in 1994 joined Faith Tabernacle of Praise Ministries, Gainesville. She was a faithful servant willing to assist in any way she could, especially facilitating youth ministry activities. She was formerly employed by the Putnam County Community Action Agency in Palatka and the Florida Department of H.R.S., in St. Augustine. She was a distinguished employee of the State of Florida, Department of Education, Division of Blind Services, as a Senior Rehabilitation Specialist (23 years of meritorious service). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Tracy H. Fitz. To cherish her memories: beloved daughter: Chantel S. Fitz, Daytona Beach; Granddaughter: Caitlin R. Harris, Daytona Beach; Sisters: Betty Nelson-Scott (Alonzo), Palatka; Judy Ellington (Kenny), Hastings; Doris Humphrey, Hastings; Brothers: Ulysses Humphrey Jr. (Phyllis), Durham, NC; Amos Humphrey (Patricia), Hawthorne; Aunts: Marie Adams, Gainesville; Myrtle Humphrey, Newark, NJ; Annie Ruth Robinson, Orange Park; Barbara Jean Tucker (Raymond) Brooklyn, NY; Mother-in-law: Barbara C. Fitz, Gainesville; a host of devoted nieces, nephews and numerous other caring relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 25, at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 26th at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Drs. Larry & Bonnie Mitchell, pastors of Faith Tabernacle of Praise Ministries, Inc., Gainesville, are co-officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
