Clements Henry Stubbs, 93, of Palm Coast entered the sunset of life on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Halifax Health Hospice Ormond Beach Care Center. Ormond Beach. A native of Gloucester County, VA, he was born on Wednesday, July 20, 1921 to Essex Henry Stubbs and Nannie (Goldman) Stubbs. At an early age, he gave his life to the Lord and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church of Gloucester. He joined the United States Navy in 1944, and was medically discharged with honors serving as U.S. Navy Seaman First Class. Clem later relocated to Philadelphia, PA, where he owned and operated Stubbs Tailoring. He was also employed with United States Postal Service at 30th Street Station for more than 30 years until he retired. Clements was a life time member of Prince Hall Grand Lodge #47, in Philadelphia. Clements was also known as "Captain" because of his passion for fishing. Clem loved people and entertaining them. His was infamous for his dock parties which included: fish, crabs, BBQ chicken, music, laughter and dancing. Clem danced circles around everyone. He loved to have a good time. On September 23, 1993 he united in Holy Matrimony to Esther V. Weaver. In 2005 he & Esther moved to Palm Coast, and became members of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Clem was a member of the Mighty Men choir. He truly loved those men and being a part of the choir until his health limited his participation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his son Bertram Chapman. He leaves to forever cherish his memory: devoted wife of 23 years, Esther Stubbs, Palm Coast; children, Carolyn (James) Reynolds, Charlotte, NC, Tanya Weaver, Concord, NC, Denise (Melvin) Payne, Patricia Carter both of Philadelphia, PA, Karen Duncan (like a daughter) Palm Coast; Clements H. Stubbs Jr., Steve (Brenda) Coubarous, both of Philadelphia, PA.; 3 grand-daughters; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends is set 10:00 am prior to the Homegoing Celebration which is set for 11 a.m., Thursday, May 28, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Pine Lake Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164, with Military Honors.
