Charlie "C" William Powell, Sr., 78, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at AdventHealth Stuart F. Meyer Hospice Care Center, Palm Coast. A native of Wadley, GA., and the son of Andrew Powell, Sr. and Mattie Lou (German) Powell, he was born on Wednesday, March 24, 1943. During Charlie's early childhood years, his family relocated to St. Augustine and he was educated in the St. Johns County School District. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Hattie Bell Wilson on June 15, 1964 and together they moved to Long Island, NY and subsequently relocated to Trenton, NJ. They became the proud parents of six children. He was an entrepreneur who operated Powell Trucking Company (which later became Powell & Sons Trucking Co.) Charlie was a member of New Samaritan Missionary Baptist Church of Trenton. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, woodworking, gardening, playing pool and playing cards.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in eternal rest by his brother, Andrew Powell, Jr.; sisters, Gwendolyn and Valerie Powell, Delorise Williams, Winifred Sailor.
He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted wife, Hattie Powell; sons and daughters, Charlie (Betty) Powell, Jr., Kenneth (Miriam) Powell, Jeffrey (Melissa) Powell, Donna Powell Brown, Wendell (Arnesia) Powell, Angela (Stacy) Simpson; 24 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, John "Jay" Powell; sisters, Lillie (Albert) Agosto, Christine Shrieves; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Following CDC guidelines: Visitation of family and friends will be 10 a.m.-12 noon, Saturday, November 20 at Anastasia Baptist Church, 1650 A1A South, St. Augustine, with a Celebration of C's Life commencing at Noon, Rev. Edwin Coffie, Pastor of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, presiding. Charlie's Son, Minister Jeffrey Powell, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, St Augustine.
