Whitfield
November 11, 1968 – July 10, 2021
SSG Charles Audra Whitfield (U.S. Army Retired), a native of Palatka, he was the son of Levis "Lebby" Lewis and Charles Whitfield, born on Monday, November 11, 1968. Charles was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1987 graduate of Palatka High School. At an early age, he was a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Palatka. On November 13, 1987, he entered the U.S. Army and honorably served for over 20 years, touring Panza Kanze, Germany, Mannheim Germany, Ft. Lewis, WA, Ft. Riley, KS,, Ft. Stewart, GA, Korea, Ft.. Benning, GA, and entered retirement on December 31, 2007 at Ft. Leonardwood, MO. Over several tours of active duty, he earned numerous decorations, medals, badges, and citations including: Meritorious Service, Army Commendations (2), Army Achievement (8), Army Good Conduct (5), National Defense Service (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, Korean Defense Service, NCO Professional Development (2), and Overseas Service Ribbon (4), respectively. Charles served as the president of Full Tilt Riders Motorcycle Club and they sponsored numerous back to school and feeding the homeless community events.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his brother, Lawrence Roberts; sisters, Yvonne Minors, Princess Evette Whitfield; nephews, Gerald Gibbs, Marcus Harrell.
Charles Audra Whitfield entered the sunset of life on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Liberty Regional Medical Center, Hinesville, GA.
He leaves to cherish his legacy of love: wife, Catherine Whitfield; sons, Charles (Vicky) Whitfield, Tyree (Healy) Whitfield; granddaughter, Vanessa Whitfield; grandson, Michael Valentine; brothers, Dale Whitfield, Reginald Whitfield; sisters, Willagene Gibbs, Eva Lewis Brown, Dorotheia Lewis, Paula Chilson, Victoria Grant, Carolyn Johnson, Pamela Whitfield; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including: godbrother, First Sergeant Willie Douglas (U.S. Army Retired); best friends, Ben Dasher, Titus Mitchell, Chris Wright.
CDC guidelines will be followed for the visitation of family and friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 20 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Celebration of Charles' Life will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 21 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Pavilion, 118 Fairgrounds Road, East Palatka. Elder Alonzo Mulberry, III, Pastor, Soul Mission Church of God in Christ, is the eulogist. Interment with full military honors will be 2 p.m. in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida.
