Mother Celia Cynthia Craig Jones, 76, of Palatka, entered into eternal rest on Saturday evening, January 15, 2011 at Florida Hospital in Orlando following an extended illness. She was a native of Aiken, SC, born August 2, 1934 to Ernest Craig and Annie Jessie Johnson. She has resided in Palatka since 1959, moving from Ocala. She was educated in the Marion County School System and earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Cosmetology in Tallahassee. Mother Celia Jones united in Holy Matrimony to the late Superintendent Johnnie J. Jones, Sr. A licensed Cosmetologist, she owned and operated Jones Beauty Salon and was also co-owner of Johnnie Jones & Sons Waste Disposal Service (1961-1986), maintaining the daily administrative responsibilities. Mother Jones served as the First Lady of Jones Temple Church of God In Christ, Williston, Florida for over 40 years. Over the years her church affiliations include Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, Palatka; Christ Dominion Church of God, Orlando; and Agape Temple of Faith, Eatonville. She was very knowledgeable of the Word of God and will be remembered by her genuine love and radiant smile.
She was preceded in eternal rest by her Husband - Superintendent Johnnie Jones, Sr.; Parents, Ernest & Annie Craig; Sister, Sadie Cox, and several step-children.
She leaves to cherish her legacy of love: three Sons Herbert Brown, Ocala; Deacon Simon (Irene) Jones, Palatka; Bishop Mark (Carol) Jones, East Palatka; two Daughters Elder Sonia Sanders, Orlando and Missionary Susie Jones, Sanford; 17 Grandchildren; 14 Great-Grandchildren; Step-children Johnnie (Gracie) Jones, Jr., Wilston (Susie) Jones, Tommy Jones, Leon (Debra) Jones, Carolyn Pittman, Ella Mae Wedlock, and Carol (Shervin) Roundtree; numerous beloved step grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; Aunt - Hattie Johnson Dore, Aiken, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation of Family and Friends will be Friday, January 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the Chapel of Serenity. A Joyous Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor. Her son, Bishop Mark A. Jones, Presiding Prelate of New Life Temple Fellowship OCI, is the eulogist.
Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, 712 S. Palm Avenue, Palatka.
