Obituary

Catherine Miss Cat McGriff, 71, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Monday, December 20, 2010 at Kindred Hospital- North Florida, Green Cove Springs, following an extended illness. Catherine was native and lifelong resident of Palatka. She was educated in the Putnam County School District and a 1957 graduate of Central Academy High School. She was a member of Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church. She was a retired homemaker who enjoyed reading the bible. Catherine was an avid gardener who loved flowers. She was well-known throughout the community and affectionately called Miss Cat by those who knew and loved her. Among her pastimes include watching the Young and the Restless. Catherine is preceded in eternal rest by her parents, Freddie & Ethel (Dunbar) McGriff, Sr.; Brothers, Henry Lee Dunbar and Freddie Pee Wee McGriff, Jr. To cherish her memories: daughter and son-in-law: Tomeka Tonya Vreen (Samuel Butch), Palatka; sister: Jeanette McGriff, Palatka; Brother: Bishop Edward McGriff (Dr. Debra), Laramie, WY; 2 granddaughters: Kemyell Carter and Kaneya McGriff, both of Palatka; nieces: Cheslyn McGriff, Laramie, WY; Joslyn McGriff, Ft. Collins, CO; nephews: Alphonso Pinkston (Sheila), Oakdale, LA; Jeffery McGriff, Darrell Purifoy (Sheila), and Mark Purifoy, all of Palatka; special friend, Bettye McPherson, Suitland, MD; and a host of godchildren, other relatives and caring friends.

Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Chapel of Serenity. Homegoing Celebration will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28 at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Palatka. Reverend Karl N. Flagg, pastor, is the eulogist. The cortege will assemble 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at her sister Jeanette McGriffs residence, 1717 Bronson Street, Palatka. Interment will be within the Dunbar-McGriff family plot in Evergreen Cemetery.
