.Carrie Jane Stewart, 95, of Jacksonville and former resident of Palatka, entered the sunset of life on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Haven Hospice Orange Park-Custead Care Center. A native of Millen, GA., she was the daughter of George Lassiter and Frankie Welcome, born on Wednesday, December 31, 1919. She received her early education in the Jenkins County (Millen, GA.) School District. Carrie retired following 30 years of custodial services at the former Barnett Bank, Jacksonville. She was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active with the Senior Citizens and Sunday School ministries. Carrie was a member of the Gladys Charles Lodge #97, Order of the Eastern Star, Jacksonville. She was very crafty and often spent her leisure time rug-hooking and crocheting. In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in eternal rest by her son, Blondell Allen, Sr., granddaughter, Kathy Wright; brothers, George Lassiter, Jr. and Henry Lassiter. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Clyde Wright Jenkins, Palatka; Gussie (Charles) Woodward, Summerville, SC; devoted great-granddaughter/caregiver, Karis (Daryl) Mills, Jacksonville; brother, Mark Lassiter, Savannah, GA; sister, Laura Samuels, Long Island, NY; 8 grandchildren, David (Dorothy) Wright, Kimberly (Harrison III) Edwards, Keith (Tiesho) Hendrieth, all of Palatka; Victor (Robin) Wright, Jacksonville; Blondell Allen, Jr., Atlanta, GA; Arlette Woodward, Penrose, CO; Charles Woodward, Jr., Milwaukee, WI; Curran Woodward, Palm Desert, CA; 35 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great grandchildren, goddaughter, Inez Beauford, Palatka; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation of family and friends will be 5-8 p.m., Friday, November 13 at "Flagg's Chapel of Serenity." Homegoing Celebration will be 12 Noon, Saturday, November 14 at Calvary's Family Life Center, 1414 Bronson Street, Reverend Frederick T. Demps, Pastor. Reverend Jarvis J. Watson, God's Love of Faith Assembly, Jacksonville, is the eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
