IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn E.
Murray
June 12, 1953 – April 4, 2020
Carolyn Elizabeth "Nana" Murray, 66, of Jacksonville, peacefully entered the sunset of life on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Northeast Florida Community Hospice at St. Vincent's Southside, Jacksonville. A native of Walterboro, SC., she was the daughter of Mother Agnes Vickers and Robert J. Bodison, born on Friday, June 12, 1953. In her early years, her family relocated to Palatka and she was educated in the Putnam County School District and was a 1971 graduate of Central Academy High School. She met the love of her life, Curtis Darnell while she and her best friend, Dot Moody, were on their way to a fight. After uniting in marriage, they made their residence in Jacksonville and became the proud parents of three children.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, proud mother, caring daughter, nurturing grandmother, loving sister, loyal friend, dedicated first lady and everyone's favorite cousin and auntie who enjoyed cooking, shopping, and spending quality time with her family and friends. Carolyn was a true Proverbs 31 Woman. She was affectionately known by her adoring grandchildren as "Nana" and often called "Cat" by those closest to her. Carolyn was a God-fearing, faithful servant and she always put others needs ahead of her own. She always greeted you with a smile and departed with a positive word of encouragement. She saw the good in everyone and she loved her family. Carolyn worked full time to not only raise her kids, but to also raise her grandkids, nieces, nephews and countless others. Carolyn loved to shop. Many days you might call her and she'd indicate that she was in her favorite store DD's and had been there for hours. Other times you might call and have a full conversation with her while pouring your heart out and she would be asleep on the other end. That was our Carolyn.
Carolyn was an awesome cook who enjoyed cooking anything that her family desired and she enjoyed feeding everyone during the holidays. She loved to drink Pepsi and eat her watermelon slices from Publix. A true fashionista, she could put an outfit together like no other. Carolyn was a thoughtful person and always made an effort to let her loved ones know that she was thinking of them on birthday and special life events. She loved to decorate and make things beautiful. She adorned her home with animal print and African art and was known for decorating every inch of a party.
Carolyn was a member of Moncrief Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville for many years. Alongside her husband Curtis, Carolyn served virtuously as a first lady during his pastoral assignments and stood with him as they co-founded No Cross No Crown Christian Faith Assembly in St. Augustine, FL., and they maintained their marital vows for 48 years until God called him home on September 2, 2019.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn was preceded in eternal rest by her sister, Thomasina B. Williams; and grandson, Aloysius Murray, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Artemus Murray, Aloysius Murray; daughter, Curtrell (Steward) Washington, all of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Chardonnay Murray, Curtis Murray II, Jarrell (Akia) Delancy, Jamar Murray, Nadjoyni Murray, Amiyah Murray, Jala' Delancy, Jayde Delancy, Aubreyann Greaves, Ebony, Ieasha & Deja, all of Jacksonville; great grandchildren, Malia Delancy, Legacy Delancy, Ja'Kaden Murray, all of Jacksonville; siblings, George (Beverly) Latson, Temple Hills, MD; Lottie Watson, Jacksonville; Bernice Johnson, Porter (Evangelina "Eve") Johnson, and Willie "Will" (Yvette) Jones, all of Palatka; Agnes Jean (Joseph) Colebut, Bethesda, MD; Gloria Bodison, Francis Bodison, Shirley B. (Ricky) Copeland, Vanessa Bodison, Herbert Lee Bodison & Bobby James Bodison all of Walterboro, SC; aunt, Georgia Bodison Wilson, Walterboro, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children and other relatives and loving friends who already miss her profoundly.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the Governor's executive stay-at-home order, a limited, socially-distanced visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, April 10, at No Cross No Crown Christian Assembly, 45 Masters Dr., St. Augustine, FL. The Murray family will conduct a private Homegoing Celebration with Pastor Julius Perry, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery, Palatka.
